Client calls give me so much anxiety because I always feel like I don’t know what I am doing (the client knows their own business better than I do). Does this feeling go away if you work in industry?

One thing to remember with client calls is that we are not expecting you to know everything about our business as well as we do. What we need you to bring as advisors is your technical expertise (whether tax, accounting, consulting) and your experience / insights working with with other companies.

I'm sure OP is refering to audit client calls. e.g. I don't understand your roll forward please explain it to me like I'm 5

I felt the same way, which is why when I became senior I was under the impression that I was required to know it all. And instead of seeking for help, I would spend more time trying to figure out the answer.

I guess my experience as a staff and first year senior made me feel this way. As a first year, I recall once asking my Senior on a test I was given. First time ever doing it and no one had walked me through it. I don’t always expect all the answers to be given to me, but this task was very vague. By just asking “hey can you help me understand this test” his response was “what you want me to do it for you”… so after that experience I shut down from asking for help. This was within months of joining the first. Also as a first year senior, I recall my manager asking me by task if I’ve ever done it before and if say no, she would do it herself. So I stopped saying no and just say “I’ll figure it out”. I depended a lot on peers because of those two experiences. I was also in a lot of private jobs, so managers were never around. I clearly was traumatized. Eventually by Senior 3, I realized that not everyone is the same. And there were actually so many managers/partners that were willing to help. So I became more open to seeking for help and asking for guidance.

It is ok. The client doesn't know what they are doing as well.

🤷🏼‍♂️ In-house v. more trial experience? I’m a junior partner (insurance *coverage*) with one 2nd chair trial. I *might* have a few more trials in the next 3-4 years, but maybe not. Should I stick around 3-4 more years or go in-house at insurer now? My goal is to try to maximize my skill set and, if I go in-house, return to private practice eventually w/ some client contacts from my in-house work. Any advice??? I’m really conflicted on this. 🤔

Frustrated—am managing a project as a manager and one of the people reporting to me on it never replies to my teams messages with tasks and status update requests. Always have to have a daily call with them to check in when many things could be addressed via teams chat. Is it worth raising to them and if so, any suggestions on how to phrase things?

Cognizant Hi All, My spouse is working in the UK and I can get a dependent visa. My question is does TCS allow me to work from UK? I'm ok with getting my Indian salary but will there be any problems in working from abroad. I work for a banking client and I have a VM and VPN configured. I don't want to resign from TCS just because I have to relocate and at the same time I need this job and money. I'm anyway working from home, so it won't make a difference I suppose. Please help. Thanks

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?
