Idk about the job but I feel like we should be friends 🤔

Dont jump at first client. Developing a client following that easily is the makings of a great (and well paid) Partner

A close friend of mine was in this exact position (at Deloitte too!) and jumped on it. It was his client (mid-sized private equity firm) and he is now happily their chief data scientist two years out of school and loving it! He objectively skipped years of career progression, got paid a lot more, and was given the autonomy to teach himself world class techniques in data science / ML and apply then in portfolio companies and deals to make $$$$$. Phenomenal experience you would never get in consulting haha.

The Imposter Phenomenon is real, and legitimate. Many, many people suffer from it, including at senior levels (like yours truly). It's okay to experience that and still forge ahead. Don't let it get in the way of rapid career progression when you are fortunate enough to have such an opportunity. You will learn as you go, and you will rise to the occasion. Along the way, don't pretend to know things that you don't. Ask intelligent questions, do your homework, and find a good mentor within your new firm. All of this assumes that you want the role and see it as a good move for yourself in terms of direction, cultural fit, upward and lateral mobility, etc. Do your due diligence before pulling the trigger on this. Good luck, OP!

Like the role they offered, but not sure I’m good enough. Data science role. Feel like an imposter but it’s such a great opportunity I know I’m going to say yes. Lot of stress around the move. Came to D straight out of school

like

I get imposter syndrome is real but it’s not easy in the moment. Beyond that I don’t have anyone who can empathize with my situation. No one like someone complaining about doubling their salary in 9 months. Feels like s big moment though

like

OP, that’s very Holden Caufield of you!

like

I get that C1. My role is in data science but I see myself as an good communicator and eventually a partner/business role will suit me better in the long runs the question is does staying now makes that happen or do I leave an come back. Technical skills are more relevant at the client and the next three years could be awesome learning

like

Opportunities pass by like clouds so glad to hear you’re taking it. After you’ve been on the job for six months, do you think you’ll know more? I’m sure you’ve experienced being an imposter in the past but then found yourself succeeding more-so than you expected at first

like

Not saying it's easy, just legitimizing your situation while encouraging you to seize the day (if this is a compelling move for you). You needn't be alone; forge relationships there once you arrive, and find yourself a mentor inside the firm. People face difficulties at all levels, so it's not complaining while you "should" be grateful and have nothing to complain about. You get to be nervous in the face of a great opportunity without needing to feel like a whiner.

I feel you PWC2. I love the city, just not feeling confident. If you met me at work you’d think I’m holding it down 100%, but feel like everyone around me is just smarter.

See if you can complete a year at D and then switch if you like the role Client offered

Hi everyone! I am relatively new to consulting space. I worked with Deloitte in a research role, but have joined an MBB firm at a more front end role. I have a slightly unconventional question to ask (might be political too), but since this is an anon platform, I hope to get honest answers. I wish to know does people care about your looks in consulting (specially when you are on a client facing role?) I am an Indian male, and I have acne (not a lot, but considerable). Cont. in comments
