Lateraling and the new firm wants two references from my current firm to reach out to closer to my start date. Should I inform my references beforehand or should I just provide an email to the new firm and let it be?

A partner put me in charge of a specific project that I ran independently. Things were going well. The client began asking me to do more and more, including revamping their system and internal trainings. The client even gave me a litigation matter. Suddenly, the partner became more involved. I was removed from meetings concerning the revamping, my trainings were cancelled, and he started micromanaging. He has now sidelined me from the project and trash talked me to the client. I am very upset.
