Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. 529 NY question. I want to setup an account for my daughter. Planning to contribute $10K to maximize the tax deduction as a married couple.
(1) Should my wife and I setup two accounts for our daughter with $5K each? Or ok to setup a single account under one of our names?
(2) Understand $10K is below the annual gift tax but 529 is considered a gift. Is it good practise to document this in some shape/form? Like a one page doc that my wife and I sign stating we gifted to a 529 $10K in 2022.
