This problem is usually the other way around, especially in this environment
Agreed, I rather put some effort into an email with the option for a call.
My calendar on any given day is a nightmare.
So, the opposite of this meeting could have been an email?
Nah. Emails, even long ones, give me things to process. I process on my own time. Then we can set a call to discuss if There are open questions.
Good one. I’m a visual person and don’t process long bulky text too well (except, well, when reading contracts). Also my attention span sucks.

Honestly I think it comes down to personal thought processing preference. I get a lot of meetings that should have been emails, and I’m better at focusing on written text rather than audio.
This is it. Even in this thread, people have very different thought processing techniques. Something about putting my ideas in to solid writing helps me analyze and audit my own thoughts. Others, like Op, are a lot more extroverted and/or visual with their thought process. The important part is being somewhat flexible to both and not being afraid to share your preference. I personally believe both extremes are bad and I do agree with many here that excessive meetings or meetings with low value are a much bigger problem.
Sounds like as you’re a principal, could bring this up to your team.
My team does okay - we have ground rules we try follow. But other service lines we work with, not sure I have time or will to try influence.
