Coming back from a long PTO and I feel so slow today. Any tips to get ramped up after a long break from work?

Employer requires use of vacation for sick days for non-exempt salaried employees, then surprises everyone with a forced, unpaid week at the end of the year due to shutdowns. At this point, most people that can afford to plan for the week of vacation time they have to use at the end of the year.

Is this common practice? I am pretty sure it is completely legal, but still seems like a bad policy.

Do you guys think I can negotiate the salary to 70K, which based on my research is the average pay for my level of experience and education? Or is that too much to ask?
