Coming back to work today after a 4 month personal leave of absence. I've been with my company since Feb 2020 and am on the bench for the first time.

I'm a ball of nerves right now, both because I'm returning to work after such a long time and because I'm on the bench.

Any words of advice or encouragement are needed and appreciated!

Take the time to reconnect with your network. Coffee, lunch, zoom catch up. It will make sure people know you are back and will make you feel better to get a warm welcome.

Welcome back! “Slow and steady” as you ease back into it. My advice would be to use this time to network with people to rebuild your relationships at work and also to see what exciting things are out there at the firm that you may want to try out (e.g. projects in new industries, business initiatives, BRGs) so you can get acclimated again. It’s a good time to go at your own pace because once you’re back on a project it can get hectic and you may not have time to dedicate to those other things.

A body in motion tends to stay in motion: getting there is the hardest part which is already behind you!

Does being on the bench impact your pay? There are many companies that have consultants on the bench, so I wouldn’t take it personally. Have you checked what is the utilization rates across your department? This should give you a good indication.

Yesterday was my first appraisal. I was welcomed and told that I am not eligible for promotion. But then again it was acknowledged that the work that I do is great. The offered me a hike of 21% after 1year 2 months of work experience. I was initially hired at 6 lpa. I did not rebut and accepted it. What are the things I could have asked? Should I have negotiated more? What are the things that I can focus on in the next appraisal cycle? Want to know the thoughts of the experienced professionals.

Does anyone have any experience about the Nissan Leaf? Looking to get a basic electric car to do my local miles (about 10 k a year) and don’t need anything fancy in terms of speed, looks etc. specifically looking for reliability and range of 150-200 miles without breaking the bank and the leaf seems to be the least expensive car out there after accounting for federal rebates. Or are there better options? Will keep my ICE SUV for longer drives. Most charging will be don’t at home overnight.

What's a rule you are expected to enforce that you strongly disagree with or are indifferent to. Do you enforce it or take the risk? I move around as a tutor and am currently working with a school that has a ridiculously strict formal address policy. One of my second graders refers to me as "Miss Tutoring (my first name)" - it's about the cutest thing ever and doesn't bother me one bit. We are moderated sometimes and I'm more worried about her getting in trouble than me for not abiding.

Ladies, love to hear your thoughts. I’m in my late 20’s with a handful of close gfs (most of them live far) but I have a history of losing girlfriends. I’m self aware to a fault and am very supportive/responsive but other than my core group, it’s hard for me to keep gfs around other than 6 month span. It’s happening to me again right now and it’s really hard, she’s going through something and pulling away/towards others when we have been VERY close before. Anyone else have this experience?

Hi everyone! I am in a weird situation right now that I haven’t been in before and could really use some advice especially from women who might have faced or seen something similar. However, once I started working on the project, it became very clear that I’m in the wrong team and on the wrong project (continued below)
