Coming in as senior associate at a PE firm next month. Too aggressive to discuss carry & coinvestment possibilities first week?

If it wasn't discussed in your offer letter then I wouldn't bring it up your first day on the desk... Wait until your first annual review is my advice - don't want to be seen as only in it for the money, especially if you are anything less than flawless your first few months

like

PWC 1, looking greedy after you sign an offer letter is not a good look. Carry grant should have been discussed during the interview process. OP, that being said, would feel out what’s expected of and hoped for you at the firm. Would try to come to an understanding of trajectory slope, especially if you view this as a long term home

like

Yeah you could wait until your first deal is under LOI, prove yourself along the way on that transaction and then express an interest in the ability to coinvest on that deal (as a way to broach the topic)

like

Coinvest should be brought up. Carry might be touchy

Good and sensible advice all. Thanks.

Or do I just let the partner know that I don’t have insight into why since I didn’t draft it?

I was “terminated” from one of the shitty IT conglomerates from India today. for no reason at the same time I’m furious because I have documented all the discrimination , sexism, harassment, labor laws broken, intimidation tactics , harassment of various kinds including sexual, so I am demanding a larger severance package the. What they offered which was nothing. I have documented all proof of this. They have consistently set me up in situations designed for me to fail.
