C is probably super good and has trust of leadership. Put your head down, do your work, and don't lose sleep over titles
Literally only people from D worry this much about titles and reporting chain. It's work, do it and move on. Makes me super glad I left D!
Wear the hat you've been assigned. Get it done and become their go-to. Deal with him/her directly and don't go around (unless you've let them know.) Think team. At ACN they would not have input on your performance (at least not directly.) A manager working for another same level I know asked for direct mentoring time with the tower lead (up one level) on regular basis.
Push your ego aside (and keep it there) and just do your job.
