Lots of us chose this profession for the lifestyle. If you don't like to party stay in industry
I think it is an excuse for many to simply not grow-up and/or not deal with certain aspects of life. Consulting has its stresses, but I experienced stresses in industry, too. Everyone faces the potential for layoff, competitive culture, demands for better work, etc. Most just don't get to do it on expense accounts and at our pay grades. I enjoy the occasionally drink, but have never used the "stress" as an excuse to drink to excess. Some nights my team and I just felt like having a good time. I don't smoke or do drugs and have never felt the need to. Never noticed/thought the usage was anything until I read about it on here.
Very true although FB is a small sample. On my travel projects had never met so many people drinking/drugs to cover up massive unhappiness. I came from industry and was surprised too. There is a lot to f peer pressure. I stand my ground at one drink and then only once in awhile.
My thoughts are that they keep me sane
Oh vey with all the pearl clutching. Not sure I follow the logic that drinking or smoking makes you afraid to grow up. No one is hurting you by doing any of these things so why do you care?
Depends on the sector and your clients. For many personal reasons as well as significant "background" checks I do not partake in any of the drug scene ever. No bending of the rule. But have friends in other service lines definitely use the stress as an excuse for drug use. I definitely do drink though. Drinking/networking/partying is consulting 101. I have numerous friends who do not drink for religious reasons and they do just fine. But in my examples they have a significantly smaller network both within the firm and outside. It's part of the game. Not saying it's 100% necessary, but if you don't think u can hang without peer pressure etc then stay in industry.
You get A type personalities in consulting. A type personalities are more prone to drink and use uppers
Well the fact that you are away from home every night and have nothing much to do after work- play a big role in this as well.
