Companies with “unlimited” PTO how do you handle LOA situations? Wondering if you set a limit to paid time through the PTO policy or through a LOA policy. Anything you do or know others do would be helpful!

We have a policy that limits you to 2 weeks (10 days) at any given time, or before/following a leave.

like

We follow the same policy of 2 weeks as a bridge to get the EE on to Short-term disability if that is an offered benefit so they don't suffer additionally by loss of pay during their LOA.

We limit ours to 3 weeks (15 days) at any one time. Anything after that would need to be an LOA. With certain leaves you can use 15 days in conjunction - like maternity or parenting.

like

we spell out that leaves can only use up to 5 days PTO. We have to get pretty specific, because we offer longer paid leave for parental bonding, and we have other programs that cover disability, etc.

like

2 weeks of PTO at any given time. Any PTO request above that requires manager/HR approval.

A parent of one of my students told admin she thinks it's irresponsible that I won't be grading over Christmas break. I let the students know to get any work they need graded in before the break and I'll get it to it during our workdays in January. Apparently that's not fast enough for her 🙄. Is it wrong that I'm sort of pissed off by this? Should I say something?

Hi! I need some help negotiating a raise. I have been working for this company for exactly 3 months now, but I was hired as an AGM. I'm not specific on what my responsibilities are as AGM.
However the GM at the time, quit 1 and a half months in. I was thrown into the role and have been handling it since.
My regional calls himself our GM but is never on site.
Was reluctant to cover my shifts when I became sick and requested time off for a few days. (4 days)
Any thoughts?

I’m seeking a promotion from L2 to L3 by EOQ1 2023. I’ve set the expectation over the past year and my manager keeps saying “within the next year,” “within the next year.” By the next promotion cycle, I will have been in this role for a year and a half. I am the most junior on my team but I feel I’m consistently delivering better and faster than my senior colleagues. Not to mention my RSUs are drowning and I’m the most tenured at the company on my team. Tips on navigating this?

My firm has a collections budget (80% of your billable rate x 1850 hours) and an hourly budget that must be met in order to be eligible for a bonus. The firm cares very little about originations and will reward someone for making their collections over someone who brings in new work. I missed my collection budget due to some odd timing with a client, but originated more than all my peers so no bonus for me. I’ve been at this same mid level firm for 9 years and it’s all I know. Heading into 2023, here are some phrases I'm eliminating:

1. "No worries."
2. "No problem."
3. "Sorry to bother you."
4. "Does this make sense?"
5. "Sorry, I'll fix that right now."

Here's what I'm replacing them with: ⤵
1. My pleasure.
2. Of course, happy to help.
3. When you have a minute, can I get your opinion on ____?
4. Does this help you clarify things?
5. Thank you for catching that!

Words are powerful.

Use it wisely.

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?
