Company approved me hiring my first (non-lawyer) direct report! Excited to cross this off my professional bucket list but I know hiring is the tip of the iceberg. What books, articles, general pro tips, etc. do you all recommend for "being a good boss" advice, esp. geared toward a first time boss?

To what extent to platforms facilitate union formation? To what extent do they discourage it? You'd think websites like glassdoor, linkedin, and this one would all be in an incredibly powerful position from the point of view of union organizing and the way they design the site could work for us or against us. So I'm asking two questions - how do we use the sites to build solidarity and organize unions but also can the sites better facilitate this process?

Facebook Ads after iOS 14 changes.

I'll share my experience and urge you to share yours:

Since iOS 14 changes, Facebook ads isn't the same anymore. Why?

A. >75% iOS users denied tracking. They are no longer tracked across websites/apps. Facebook lost its edge.
B. Targeting and conversion tracking aren't as effective anymore.
C. Many advertisers have been migrating their budgets from Facebook to Apple and Amazon ads.

What's your experience? Let's all learn.

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

I’m currently a 4th year Private Equity/M&A lawyer applying for jobs in-house. I’ve been asked by a potential employer to provide a “contract I’ve drafted” with confidential information redacted but it seems wrong to pull a contract from my firm and the client to send to another organization for personal use (as purchase agreements are a labor of love from multiple parties). Has anyone else been asked to provide contracts to potential employers? Are there alternatives?

My background is in tech transactional. I joined a cybersecurity SaaS startup at the end of last year and now also handle more generalist matters in addition to all things commercial-related. I have a number of books on contracts that I’ve found super helpful over the years (The Tech Contracts Handbook, A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting, Sign Here, etc.). Can anyone recommend books they’ve found helpful for L&E matters, privacy matters, product matters, or marketing/advertising matters?

Very specific to retail and/or hospitality in-house roles: has anyone found a good solution for predictive scheduling? Our retail division has one set of software for scheduling and one for payroll, and neither of them can handle predictive scheduling compliance issues unless they’re used for both the scheduling and payroll functions. I’m coming up empty on ideas for them to bridge the gap, but I’m also new to my compliance counsel role, so I would be overjoyed if anyone has suggestions.

I recently made a move into compliance, and I hate it. It’s so boring, and I miss working with lawyers in a legal role. We just think and interact differently, and it’s never been more apparent. Should you always negotiate salary? I told an employer what my salary range was and they offered the top range in the first round of negotiations? My total comp would be an additional 25% on top of salary. I’m elated about the offer but I’m concerned they’ll have doubts about me moving into a contract negotiation role if I don’t negotiate. I’m junior to two Legal Counsel (I work in-house) who are passive aggressive towards each other. They don’t attend each other’s meetings and leave each other out of email CC’s. It’s pretty clear this is done on purpose as one of them has bitched to me about the other.
