Company I work for is hiring someone for the same position as me. Job posting say salary range is 50-70k for 0 years of experience. I have been at this position for 2 years and am making 43k, should I go ask for a raise and request 70K? If so what is the best way to go about it? If not what should I shoot for?

It’s worth a shot but I’d seriously question working for a company that keeps you below the range for a position when you’re obviously experienced in the role. That’s a huge red flag when it comes to values. I’d be looking elsewhere

like

And as a project manager you should be making way more than $43k. Do you have a PMP?

You can try...but a raise that significant isn't likely. You'll probably have to get a better offer elsewhere and leave.

like

Definitely bring it up. Sell your experience to them and ask for the 70k. If someone at 0 yoe can get 70k, you probably deserve more than that tbh. But if they don’t budge, just start looking for other jobs.

like

Classic salary compression. Definitely ask for more and point to the PD. I’d be reasonable and ask for the midrange. If they can’t/won’t do it, start looking and when they ask why you left remind them of this conversation. Good luck.

i’d send an Email to HR with my manager CC’d and Request that my salary be reevaluated, and stating why i think it’s only fair that it’s reevaluated. the Why, would be that someone with less experience, is making more money than you. probably wouldn’t ask for the whole 70 right off the bat, i think they’d offer you 60-65 just off principle.

like

Where are you located? I agree. $43K? Is this the same position? I would bring it up informally and see what is their “ reasoning” behind this huge gap.

I would take the listing and discuss this with your boss. Perhaps you find middle ground and take your 43 + 70 and you and the new person split the salary (with you getting slightly more due to seniority)

Hi all! I spent 8 years working in the veterinary field before deciding to go back to school to get a degree in communication media. I graduated in 2020 and I got a job with a national franchise (corporate) less than a year after graduating. The role was for a Brand Manager and it transitioned to Communication Manager about 7 months in. The company was toxic, disorganized, had no idea what they were doing. *cont in comments*

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

I got promoted recently. The new pay kicks in 2 months later. I have another job offer that will pay me 30k more + 20k sign bonus. My current employer is a global org, the brand name certainly has value but they don’t pay well. When I told them about my offer and tried negotiating, they refused to budge from the num my new pay would be and offered 10k retention bonus instead. I’m one of the highest performing individuals in the team. I feel like they don’t care whether I leave or stay. Thoughts?

Thanks.

Company B also said there is still a round of reference checks left and the holidays are coming up.. help! What should I do?

Like a lot of others, I’m underpaid. I’ve been with my company for 3 years having worked various roles and have been working as a researcher for a couple years now.

Our org is restructuring and part of that is salaries are being reviewed and adjusted.

What are the chances I get the adjustment I deserve? They will need to bump me up 35%. Am I being foolish or do I need to look elsewhere?
