“Practice” interviews are important

I feel this. I had an interview last week and I was all over the place with my words. At the end when thanking him for his time I called him Jared instead of Derrick 😳.

like

Yes! I just couldn’t focus. At the end I was like this was a terrible performance. Words came out and I don’t know if they made sense. I’m happy it wasn’t a company I knew anything about.

Practice in front of a mirror or record yourself! I always practice a list of “stories” for scenario based questions as well.

Agreed! I legit thought it was a recruiter call and not the interview. I was wildly unprepared and her questions were so strange. At the end of the day, I’m happy I took the call!

like

Gosh once I went to the wrong office and was sitting waiting on the interview which was actually on a different day! Got called across the hall to the actual interview with 8 people! I was already late and was given 20 minutes to answer 20 questions?! Well I didn’t get it but hey, I hope I proved I’m adaptable and work well under stress!

Oh goodness. That’s pretty funny, I’m sure it wasn’t then. But it’s a good story!

Also, I’ve been on the interview team and totally hate watching people flounder and be nervous! I want to help them answer the questions and give them tips!

I was drowning! At least I got an email 2 hours later saying “we’re going with other candidates”. I was like, if I were in your shoes I’d do the same 🤣🤣

Have anyone done contracting negotiations before? I've interviewed for co A & B and co A extended an offer today. The offer does not meet my current salary. Co B's interview structure is 3 rounds and I've finished my 2nd round today. The recruiter mentioned that since I am a contractor my current salary is incomparable as they will provide benefits, etc. Is this true? I have 2 yrs of contracting HR exp from fortunate 500 co’s & OMW to get my SHRM-CP. Appreciate your advice in advance.

Today I had a 4th round interview and gave a 10 min presentation for a position I really want. I honestly love everything about this position and is my dream job. I thought it went really well & she seemed very positive. She said she would follow up with the ceo (who I already met with) and let me know about next steps. I was originally told there would be 5 rounds and with every other round I’ve known next steps before I left the interview. This time I had to wait. Is this a good or a bad sign?

Help! Just learned that my parents (54 and 56) only have ~100k in their retirement account. Their house is currently worth ~800k with ~450k left to pay on the mortgage. Their income is ~200k combined. They insist that they’ll have enough to retire on with social security and after selling the house. However, I have a hard time believing this since the max monthly social security payout is ~3k per person which doesn’t even get close to the 70-80% replacement ratio. How screwed are they really?
