Computer science vs Audit?

As someone who studied both (cs/accounting/finance) in undergrad but now works in prof services, grass is always greener on the other side (speaking more for prof services in general, not just audit). A good amount of CS jobs are not very exciting (unless you’re at a top/cultish firm). Defs get paid more but in my opinion, people in the cs fields are grossly overpaid - i imagine it will start leveling out since supply of ppl studying CS in undergrad exploded in past 2-3 years.

People have thought salaries would level off since the 90s. They have not and will never level off in the US

Audit for sure. When I was young my mom wanted me to be a computer scientist. I said no mom, I want to be an auditor. This is like dream comes true for me. What could potentially be the upside of being in computer science? Better money and better work life balance? What else? I don’t even feel like working in audit. Can’t wait for another walkthrough meeting tomorrow.

A whole bunch of $200k jobs and by reading the comments seems easy enough. Limited school, great salary, barely work. No brainer huh? Lol

Is this a real question?

Whichever you like more. They’re both viable careers. Don’t just pick a career based on money, happiness and satisfaction are more important once your essential needs are met.

I agree with this, but I also have to say that be prepared that either option may not be as satisfying as they are in school. I actually loved studying accounting, but I have hated working in public accounting since day 1.

Lol you don’t think you’ll have more extensive walkthrough meetings in CS? Sadly mistaken

Hubby is cs, I’m audit, he pities me all the time. I work 80 hr week to make 85k a year, he’s like 35hr and 200+, he even graduated later than I did.

Computer science - my hubs is a software engineer, gets paid almost twice as much as I do and works half as much.

like

Oh yeah, not to mention he has job security for life and will never have to worry that technology will replace his job (because he is technology).

Probably audit as the CS field in general is extremely competitive and there’s a huge oversupply of CS graduates and unemployed software developers.

Have often thought about getting additional degree in CS. Can be truly shocking considering how much "tech" stuff is punted on, not just in the workplace but outside of it as well.

Compsci if you can get through the program

I'm sure comp sci professionals will be laid off soon enough. If there's money changing hands, there will always be a need for audits.

What level is he? Is that salary actually typical?

CS for sure for your future job security. I've seen some long time auditors who can't secure jobs in industry.

I’m struggling on how to effectively coach a designer on my team who is a low performer. I’ve been working with them for two years.. but have not seen the growth needed to succeed in this industry. They’re slow, lack creative innovation, and have a hard time designing strategically (designs don’t make sense even from a functionality standpoint).

I’ve tried everything I can think of.. but at this point, account teams would rather request working with interns over this person.

Any advice?

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?
