Me, concluding a story to my wife about my struggling client project: Anyway, don't tell anyone, okay?

Wife: I don't know anyone who would care.

I told my husband this morning about an issue we just discovered on my project - we’ve been discussing for months and nobody thought to mention this sooner. My husband said it sounds like we need to have dedicated communication channels to discuss these things 😣 YES DEAR THAT’S WHAT WE’VE BEEN DOING

I actually get a kick out of telling people the kinds of projects I work on.

Reactions range from, "And that's a thing? That people pay other people to do?" to "And what makes you qualified to give that kind of advice?"

I try the same with my wife every Friday during dinner.

Without fail, she says “what are you talking about? You make slides for a living. I develop novel medicines.”

Then I shut up and drink more wine.

Married 28 years. She’s given up trying to explain what I do. Lol.

👏🏼 great post. What we do absolutely matters to NO ONE

That’s good. That is important. Doing work on COVID matters. Most other stuff is under the radar and we can’t simply explain that doesn’t make our spouse look puzzled, roll eyes, go Huh? or loving nod in support, while thinking about something they saw on their smartphones. LOL. I don’t blame them.

Hey at least she was listening

Me: The client is being difficult. They aren’t being collaborative
Her: Why did they hire you if they didn’t want to work with you?
Me: Silence

How common is it for a supervising attorney to reduce your pay because they are cutting the bill to the client? I have been at a small firm for about a month and am an hourly W2 employee. Yesterday he asked how long I had spent on something (I submit daily timesheets that he had not looked at yet). I told him 7 hours and he asked me take pay for 6.

I was on the bench for the last 2 weeks and now people finally reach out with project opportunities. One is a random M whose project I’m much more interested in. How should I let her know that I’ll prefer the other project without making a bad impression given that I’ll still be on the initiative?

YOE is 11.7, current CTC is 18.5LPA (15.7 fixed + 2.8L variable) Got offer from IBM for CTC 20.5LPA fixed + 1.5L joining bonus. They reduced my expected CTC during the package discussion saying they can give hike based on my 'fixed' salary in current organization which is 15.71 LPA. Since I badly wanted to switch from my current company said OK to this. Now I feel bad thinking this hike offered by IBM is very less compared to my actual CTC 18.5LPA. Is really IBM give hike based on fixed?

Hi! Interested in your feedback regarding recruiters (headhunter), specifically, them not getting back to you after going thru 3 rounds of interviews. This happened to my husband and crickets after the 3rd interview. First interview was with the recruiter, second with the hiring company HR manager and the third with the hiring managers (I believe there were 3 people on the video call). He’s moved on and found something elsewhere but this just seems so unprofessional.
