D2 - I doubt anyone is pushing people away who are trying to vent. When I’ve had bad days and needed a friendly call, I was not going to my coworkers for that. I needed someone outside who could just let me vent, maybe cry, and then encourage me to keep going or stick it out to the end of the week or talk to a manager about XYZ issue, etc.
For me, the only jobs I cried at were the ones I cared about, or that were good learning experiences in the end. I know that’s not always the case for everyone, but sometimes you just need to let it out, pull yourself together, and keep going.
P2 growing up does not mean you can’t talk to your family when things are stressful or you have something proud you want to share. Honestly sometimes it is easier to talk to someone not involved in the issue. My family reminds me it is ultimately only work and not life or death situation. And who understands you and loves you more than your mom? I am raising my kids to be strong and independent .. but will remind them it is fine to call me when they need to talk. I hope to have meetings with them when they need that.
No shame in that!
Confession: Even on non rough days I do the same, my mom's talks are wayyyyyyyy more important than anything this job has to offer.
Those that don't cry usually drink too much
During one horrible busy season we dubbed one of our out of the way work rooms onsite “the crying room” and it’s where people went if they needed to vent or cry.
Honestly this is sad and uplifting all at once 😢
When I screw up I call my grandmother so I can remember how far our family has come in the long run
Guy here, never cried but called Mom and complained about the world to her. She's a sympathetic listener.
As a mom, this makes me happy 😃
I'm honestly a little amazed at how common this is? I've never cried at work but it seems like everyone has a story about it...
My mom died three years ago so I envy you. I would love a meeting like that 💕. However I am lucky to have my dad who dutifully asks me about work everyday at six o clock.. maybe I will have meetings with him in the day
Why the heck is this tolerable in our line of work? Y'all, if one of your team members is crying or about to cry, try to help. Sending them to a room is horrific.
You should never be too busy for a team member, whether it's just being aware of their state of mind or actually taking work off their plate.
M1, the fact that you enabled that is scary
That’s what moms are for.
This is kind of adorable. I’m 32 and still call my mom most days after work.
I love this as a mom! I hope my little sprout calls me every day❤️
I leave the office and call my mom while walking down the street. You’re good 👍
Moms are the best

PSA, P2: you can value independence and maturity, as well as value family support. FFS. Sounds like you weren’t hugged enough growing up. 🙃
I sometimes have my therapy appointments during the week while traveling. Take a short break and that helps...
