Conflicted about leaving consulting - I have been here approx 1.5+ years after mba, is the grass really greener on the other side? Very confused on what roles to apply within industry. I’ve gotten a lot of rejections from PM and Strategy roles even with prior work experience.

Tbh, AT Kearney has a weak name in the tech industry, and you will likely not land any PM roles - big 4 is much better for those types of exits. I think you should try for F100 non-tech in roles like Corp Dev etc.

Long and nuanced discussion based on a lot of factors. For me personally I do not think the grass is greener in industry for me right now. Was also from MBA and have 1.5 years in consulting

It depends

😩

Depends. Did consulting 7 years before coming to industry and there are pros & cons. The work is more interesting, feels more tangible and you feel like you are building something real. The cons: very hierarchical, smaller teams to lead, more political, the people are not as cool, comp and growth is much less. I don’t think going back on the road 3-4 days a week (which will return) is worth it so for now I am content.

Need advice - I have an offer to partner with an FA at my wirehouse. His partner is retiring in 4 years (fully) and they want a junior partner taking his spot. I’ve been in the core/emerging affluent arm of the wirehouse for 5 years. Excellent training but haven’t built a book. I have two levels of the CFA done. They don’t need me to bring in assets as the book gets a lot of referrals. Anyone ever been in this situation? The entire book is advisory and produces $4m in rev T12. Any advice?

I'm thrilled that recruiters have reached out to me for a role I love at almost double comp. I can do/do/have done every responsibility for the role, but one part of the description gives me pause--it requires 10yrs experience in this space. I have 5.5 directly applicable and another 6 that's applicable but not often considered (I had a unique military job). And, this particular leadership role has not been common in corporate America before a couple years ago.
