Burnt out. I feel increasingly bitter over even a few hours spent on work during the weekends. I know it’s normal in this industry and expected. It’s just been a really rough year and I’ve been working every weekend for the past couple of months.

Why are the expectations on billable hours so extreme on lawyers? Consulting, accounting and other comparable jobs, apart from investment bankers, are way below lawyers.

And it’s not that lawyers won’t make enough money if they work less - reduce hours by 10% and you’d still be making fortunes as a partner and a small fortune as an associate.

Any other first years on track to bill like 1,300 hours this year? Pretty stressed out about it despite being told not to worry

Police brutality contributed to the success of the civil rights protests. Black people had to use a play dead strategy against the police and essentially be the chew toys of K-9's because we understood that people discredit us if we're anything short of perfect. Now we're revisiting the same police brutality that made us cringe 50 yrs ago. But because the protests are majority non-black, there isn't that incentive, so people are fighting back when attacked, causing things to escalate severely
