Please don’t listen to these guys. The 230i uses the B48 2.0L inline 4 turbo engine. This engine is basically bulletproof, very reliable, has great power and torque, and smooth delivery. BMW reliability concerns are honestly a thing of the past, mostly something to worry about for the cars that were pre F generation. Yours is an F22. The 2 series coupe chassis is also a great platform with a generally sporty feel. It’s a fun little car. If that’s why you’re getting it, go for it! It’s a great choice. If you want some more creature comforts, get a 328i/330i (called 328i till 2015 and 330i from model year 2016). It has the same engine, and might be a little less fun to drive since it’s somewhat larger and is a sedan, but it will have more features and options available. If you like the coupe body style with some more niceties, you can look at the 428/430. It used to just be called the 3 series coupe, but they broke the coupe off to be its own series. It’s the same car as the 3 series mechanically, just is a coupe. The only stuff that break, if they even do, are small electrical/sensor related stuff which are covered by your CPO warranty, and aren’t very expensive to fix out of warranty too. Older mid 2000s BMWs used to have catastrophic failures like rod bearings, VANOS, subframe issues etc. The only unreliable engine bmw makes now is the n63/s63 V8, which won’t be in a 2/3/4 series. Happy to chat over dm if you need
Sounds great - but I’m coming from a Prius so I think the 230i will be plenty :D

Any BMW out of warranty is a big no
I’ve had two BMWs (3 series and an x7) and have loved driving them, but very glad I had things covered under warranty. At under a year old and less than 5k mileage, my current already has had two unknown sensor issues that took weeks to figure out.
Compare that to two Acuras that I had for over ten years and 100k miles each. I did nothing except for standard maintenance and both were still in great shape when I traded them in. Ugh I kind of want my Acura back 🤦🏼♀️
Makes sense. I’ll only get it if they offer at least a 3 years warranty
I have a 335is N54 love it!!
OP wasn’t looking for the truth. Just someone to confirm what they were already planning to do. Make sure to update us in a couple of years on how much you spend in repairs OP!
Dude I haven’t even tried the car yet 😂

I have a 540ix drive and 0 issues. My dad has a 7 series and 0 issues. My moms Audi Q5 is in the shop few times a year😂.
Rising Star
My neighbor is a bmw mechanic. I asked him which BMW is the most reliable. He said none. Like people said if you want one you make sure it’s under warranty.
I have a 2014 X3 that I hate. After warranty ran out, it feel likes we’re paying a thousand dollars every year on something. I used to lease BMWs and loved the brand but I’m done now.
Most BMWs are money pits out of warranty. BUT the 2-series is an exception. Mine’s basically only needed new tires after almost 5 years.
That said, annual service is expensive-ish ($500) so a service plan or warranty might make sense depending on cost.
