I’m hoping to eventually work at Google in their Business Operations and Strategy division, but most of my experience (BDM, PM, int’l ADM) is for local startups and my BA is in Biblical Literature. It seems like consulting groups like Boston Consulting Group are considered pools for hiring potential Google candidates. Does anyone know if they help pay for schooling or if there are any other companies I could work remotely at on the East Cost that would help with this trajectory?
You definitely need to up skill if strategy is the goal. Strategy involves planning, assessment and implementation. Based on my knowledge. You could start by pursuing the google project management course on Coursera. However, focus on planning, risk management and assessment using different methodologies and tools such as surveying, fish bone, questioning and data analysis. Organization alignment and change management are also areas that you can look on as you need to align your strategy to achieving the goal of the organization and put into practice change management initiatives to support the strategy. Consider also how to do Gap analysis and SWOT analysis. It may seem like a lot but the google project management course takes you through introduction to those areas. It gives you a practical feel. Then you can venture on in Coursera and Udemy to find individual courses to satisfy each area. It takes time don’t get disheartened. The rewards does come with it.
Also PMI has a-strand that address strategy and nothing betters getting valuable experience through mentoring and volunteering which PMI offers.
