Hi all,

Need some advice on my next career move. I'm 31, have an MBA and am currently a SC in Risk Advisory with no M&A experience. I am good at risk consulting work but don't find it very challenging or interesting. That said, I expect to get promoted to M next year.

Recently, I interviewed with another Big 4 firm for SC in CDD M&A team and have got an offer. I enjoyed doing the CDD case study, and I believe I'd do well in the role.

Does it make sense to start afresh in M&A at this stage?

A serious question: all of my close friend's left india to US, EU for higher studies and are working there. I'm the only one left in my friend circle and everytime we have a video call, I really feel bad about myself as I'm still in India and they're in foreign with good living standards, earning more.

Im now 4 yoe, do you think doing MS worth it now, so that I can work in US/EU? What are other ways to move?
Note: I want to move to US/EU because of good standard of living.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but you don’t need a specific job title to get the next job title.

You need transferable skills.

Look at that job description of the job you want, look at the requirements and duties - do you do those things or similar activities?

Update your resume & at each company - remove the title, put (insert title) responsibilities…show them you’ve been using these skills all along.

Moreso sharing my story than an earnest ask, I feel compelled to share:

I got my job via a series of lucky coincidences. I am a former art student who winded up working for the print production dept of a major media company in what was supposed to be a weeklong gig, and then ended up as a data analyst in the same org.

When I think of what I would be passionate for, I think of a creative field, like fashion, even if I was a similar, administrative role. I’m not sure there’s room to grow here.
