I would target MBB + Oliver Wyman or LEK. Deloitte should be a backup.
Also Parthenon-EY and S&
The “/Deloitte” tells me that you may be very new to Consulting, which is fine. Outside of money, The pros and cons vary depending on the type of firm you join. There are different pros and cons between mbb and Deloitte. A better segment you may consider is: mbb, atk, ow, lek ; big4, acn, booz; boutiques
Pro - you get paid more than those at the same level with no MBA.
Agree that MBBD are great. I’d also look into Parthenon - great firm and folks. LEK is also strong. For healthcare, ClearView and Trinity.
TBH my classmate at D is doing much more interesting strategy work than me here at McK
@bain- I’m not benchmarking against anything in particular. I’m just trying to get a real sense of what it’s like to work at one of those firms and if pros outweigh cons for me. I see a lot of people posting about the cons on this app so it would be nice to hear some pros too
@BA1 - not the norm. D is mainly tech implementation support work ie staff aug, rarely strategy, esp at that level
@c1- you’re right, I’m fairly new to consulting. Thanks for that segmentation.
I’m targeting the first segment in that case to be more clear. I’m looking for pure strategy shops
On pros/cons, what are you benchmarking against?
Well. I would say at a junior level the pro for segment 1 would be: reputable name in consulting, good mba prep. Con for you would be that it’s not a place where a junior consultant will do strategy projects all the time, you will be exposed to other parts of Consulting like pmos. An alternative is: there are boutiques that do niche consulting, some of these niche are strategy so those consultants do straight up that work, almost all the time. My 2 cents
Ba1 is a ba at Deloitte lol, else he would’ve posted with the company named
@D1 wrong bro, I know plenty of S&O folks who do whatever you define as real strategy
Deloitte is a place where if you network really well, you can get sweet projects - but if you don’t, your experience can really vary. I’ve got a few friends there.
Perks include the people and learning environment, hands down. Being in an environment where everyone is driven and wants YOU to succeed is amazing. People say the money, travel, and points are perks but to be honest, I don’t think they are...travel drains you after a while and sometimes you’ll get on local projects, wherever you are. A lot of my peers and I have began to opt out of travel in year 2, FWIW, so being at a firm that’s flexible with that is also great - though again, not priority.
You want to be in a place where the constant is always there - the people - even when the points are not.
