I’m a little biased here since I’m a truck girl 💁🏻♀️ but in all honesty a Tesla is not a car that I would pick for my only car. I love the freedom of having a truck. I do have a BMW for when I need to go to places such as downtown ( I live in Texas so parking spaces are made for truck in most places but Austin is so packed with so many crazy tiny car drivers that I don’t need that in my life lol) but in reality you can do absolutely everything with a truck. Plus you look cooler 😉 lift it and your level of coolness goes up. I would say get one that has plastic floorboard if available and get the 4 doors with standard bed 6 ft! I have cabin and a half and it’s annoying to have to open the front door to be able to open the back passenger doors. No kids but I have a Great Dane and I drive some of the church kiddos around when we take them out for fun days.
Last but not least I hate to depend on guy friends with trucks to ask them to go to Home Depot, move furniture or purchase big stuff. All I need to do is go and load it in my truck and no one if bothered ☺️ 1 con is that now you will become popular and people will be asking you to help them out 😂🤣
Seeing your profile, Tesla Model Y makes the most sense. I'm a Tesla owner in the northeast (aka bad weather) and it handles it well. The acceleration and torque NEVER gets old, and you're future proofing your vehicle choice -- getting a gas powered car now is like buying a DVD player in 2021. Plus with a charger installed at your house, you leave with a full "tank of gas" everytime you leave the house! For space, I put a mattress in my model 3 and can camp with my girlfriend and she loves it... fits everything I need and I love not having to "drive" when I'm tired with autopilot. Happy to answer any questions you have

I live in California. Currently single.
I want to upgrade to a more luxurious vehicle.
I really like the truck because I’d be able to do anything with it. As a daily driver, the truck feels a bit of overkill. The bed won’t be full all the time, the mpg isn’t as good as a sedan. Things like putting surfboards, bikes, and kayaks can be done with any car.
I know we can’t maximize every decision but I can’t tell if it’s a dumb decision if I’m not using the full extent of a truck’s capabilities on a weekly basis.

I’m gonna get the truck. Realized that if I got a smaller car I’d regret and hate it.
Also even with my current car, a compact SUV, I avoid driving into the city when I car to avoid parallel parking.
The big difference with trucks is finding spots parking spaces that are long enough. And having to back into every space. Backing in isn’t really that bad. Small spots requires some research before hand or luck.
Apparently, a bunch of Tesla haters here. I have two cars, and the Tesla would be my only car if I had to choose. Have taken it everywhere. Almost 60k miles on it in 2.5 yrs, no mechanical issues, no problems with inclement weather, and you'll win 9.8 times out of 10 when someone thinks their car is faster.
No issues with charging or range, esp. if you can charge at home. You start every morning with maximum range. Road trips are super easy... the car picks the charging waypoints for you. Supercharging time typically 15 min or so - the car will tell you how long to hang out at each charger.
It has spoiled me for other cars. I'll still buy other "fun" cars for variety, but there will always be a Tesla for my daily.
So different that I honestly don’t know how to help you. What will this car be used for?

Tesla is a second car, really bad choice for your only car. Even if you 100% think your lifestyle will work for a fancy electric car, there will for sure be times when it won’t.
Here’s something to connect the two : the Tesla model Y can handle like an F150, especially in winter conditions

EVs get OLD really fast.
They drive like golf carts.
Many if my friends that own Tesla’s trade them in after a year.
I love ours for what it is tho

People get sick of them fast.

Powerboost for sure. I'm admittedly biased since I'm a truck guy through and through, but I'm not a fan of Teslas at all. I don't have any problems with electrification and electric vehicles overall, just don't like Teslas.
The Y will be faster, but the Ford will have it way beat on space, utility, usability, and road trip comfort, and quite possibly also luxury depending on how you option it up.
Where do you live? Are you married or single?
If you ever go on road trips, a Tesla is a nightmare. I have friends that do this and they have to meticulously plan out supercharging station to supercharging station legs with the hour long wait and inbetween. Silly, but they love to Tesla prestige.
Your friends planning out "meticulously" all the charging stations is quite unnecessary for road trips. You just enter the address on the screen and it includes any necessary supercharger spots in the GPS, with most stops lasting under 15 minutes. It's pretty seamless

As a truck owner, why would you buy one as a casual commuter car? Worse gas, harder to park in the city, less can space.
I have a ranger cause I do a lot of side work
My step mom has a Model 3. It’s cool. If you are looking for the best upper-end consumer EV, check out the Mustang Mach E. I just got mine (CA Rt1) and I’m obsessed.
The price of gas in California is around $5/gallon right now. You’re crazy to not get a Tesla!
