Considering leaving consulting for an industry job. Have been here for ~10 months so would be required to pay back the signing bonus. Anyone have experience negotiating this, with new or old company?

Dude wait it out two months or make the new company pay.

Leaving D right now short of a year. They want the whole bonus back not proated at all. You have to pay the pretax amount and then get a deduction on the current years taxes.

like

^ wouldn’t believe SC1 so quickly. Some firms are all or nothing and not a prorated amount, so read up on your offer letter before making that call.

like

You probably only have to pay back the remaining months. 2 of 12. Then have to undo the taxes you paid

Mine was prorated. And speaking from experience of all the MBA offers seen/discussed with friends. So, that covers 5 companies across me and my friends...but good point. Might just be the MBA level

Special K is the same way, C2. Huge sign on after the MBA, but if you leave before a year you owe the full pretax amount. Firm may have changed policy since I started, but they’ve had a one year clawback for the past several years with that sign on bonus.

And I was an MBA hire, SC1. Still a full, non-prorated clawback on my signing bonus. Again, firm may have changed policy since my hire, and different groups at KPMG may have different policy, but for the last several years, the group I’m in at KPMG took the full pretax amount if you left before a year.

Make them take it to court. Unless it’s a post mba signing bonus, it will cost more in time/legal than the value of it.

I just received an offer, and want to make sure I’m not leaving any money on the table. What is the typical wiggle room companies have for negotiation? What would be a good counter salary increment (in terms of %) that won’t scare them off, but allows me to capture as much of that wiggle room they have? (No defined compensation matrix or anything at this company) thanks!
