Get the title, then leave. What’s the rush?
Because in the long run, if he/she can show on his resume that they were promoted, it shows track record. Getting promoted at the same place of employment will show different on a resume than leaving to get the new title. But hey, if you want to think short-sightedly, then leave now and not wait 2 months.
In same boat. I’ve basically set the following parameters that must be met if I choose to prematurely leave before an impending promo. 1. The company must be more innovative than EY 2. The company must have more prestige than EY 3. The company must be a senior level role at a minimum. 4. The pay must be at least 25% higher than what my pay may be after a promotion. If all of these requirements aren’t met, I don’t feel like it is worth leaving the current circumstance
Recruiters and employers look specifically for the title. It shows that you "were able to make it." I'd recommend staying, at least for a day.
EY1 is wrong. Senior title will mean a lot more
Leaving gains you comp increases - temporarily - but slows promotion. Get the title before looking for another opportunity
Even if you leave the moment you make it to senior, you would still be classified under the staff 2/intermediate group when applying to jobs. For the tittle to really matter you would have to have served at least 1 year as a senior. Otherwise, there’s not much of a point to stay an extra month to get a tittle stamp for your resume. If you have a great opportunity presented to you, take it.
GT1, my personal opinion is that the title becomes a wash if the parameters I mentioned are met
SM1. I don’t see how I am wrong. If you grab a Senior title at a more prestigious firm( e.g.Boston consulting group), I think that’ll mean more than senior title at big 4. But then I guess it depends on your practice
Fair argument Sm1
There’s no reason not to put yourself out there if you know what you want. If what you’re looking for is available to you before promo, then take it. You may have less competition too as the hiring pool may be smaller while others are waiting to see if they get promoted or to find out what their raises are going to look like.
