Considering moving to NYC. Can anyone recommend a good (decent) area for a single mom of a 15 year old and 6 year old?

Thank you! I’ll look there.

Upper West Side, Brooklyn Heights, Greenpoint, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Battery Park.

Thank you. I’ll look at those areas.

Income level will dictate a lot of this. What do you expect your housing budget to be? Know that a decent 3-bed in Manhattan south of 96th is going to run you easily in excess of $7k/month.

Don’t worry you will! It took a lot of prayer and hard work. Plus I’m a big saver.

Consider Jersey City with kids. A lot more affordable.

likehelpful

Thank you. I’ll look into that also.

I love Cobble Hill / Carrol Gardens.

Bay Ridge might be good if ya have a car

Thank you!

Do you want to be in Manhattan ? Will you be going into office /client site or WFH?

Thank you!

I used to live in Paulus hook in Jersey City. Heard they have good zoned school. A lot of families near by and close to water for walks and nice views

I didn't have kids so can't personally comment.

Thank you! I’ll check it out.

1a. If you wanna be in Manhattan, and considering your personal and financial situation, would definitely would recommend the UWS. It is a nice area, not commercial like midtown or very downtown, and not surrounded by partygoers like the area between those two.

1b. Other pockets of nice areas (which are still doable given your budget, but you will get a bit less bang for your buck than the UWS) are TriBeCa, SoHo, Gramercy.

1c. UES, Yorkville specifically, would be if you want somewhere a bit cheaper than the UWS. But still nice enough and family friendly. Just less nice.

2. Safety concerns are overblown. There's always a crime happening in NYC... because it's a city of 8 million people. On a per capita basis, you are less likely to be a victim of crime in NYC, than if you lived in most other major US cities.

Thank you so much! I try to tell people that too about the crime.

Are the kids in public school? Or private?

If public, assume you want to be in a good zone.

If private, which school and where?

We’re in Texas so it’s an online school but the teachers only teach 1-2 hours a day. Parents are responsible for the rest but my kids are pretty self sufficient so they reach out when they need help and I supplement what they learn in class after work.

Brooklyn heights is great, lots of families, great views of the city being right on the water, and definitely feels safe - not the cheapest area by any means but you could definitely get 2br if the kids would share. Nearby cobble hill / Carroll gardens are also great and may be a little cheaper, also park slope

Hi guys, I’m interviewing at Guidehouse USA, and I was given a PowerPoint and excel sheet for a case study. Some of the questions asked in the PowerPoint deck technically require me to study the TA and have a detailed understanding of existing drugs on the market.
Is this how we are expected to answer the questions? Or do I just draw a framework to show how I will get the answers? I’m not sure if I’m reading too much into this!
Anyone who has done such an interview please help?

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

Why is it recommended you give a company 2 weeks notice when you are leaving but at the same time, when they are laying you off/firing you, they typically do it on the spot. I have known countless people layed off/fired on the spot over the years (especially after busy season) and everyone else when they leave give 2 week notice. Why should we relinquish power to corporations? Corporations really don't care about us. They pretend they do.
