I have a job offer to travel the world for a year doing event planning. I consider it taking a year off since the work isn't that relevant and it's just for a year. But would hit Portugal, Peru, Argentina, South Africa, Colombia, Mexico, Germany, Hungary, UK, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, etc.
With a story / opportunity like that, I don't think anyone will fault you for taking a year off. If anything it would be a strong plus for the elevator test
Travel and expenses are covered plus a decent stipend, so while not the same as salary at D no real negative net financial impact
I can't believe you are asking... The whole experience you will get will make you a better professional. I think you will be worse off by not taking that opportunity. Do it!!!
That sounds amazing. If you're relatively early in your career, I would do it for the experience and stories you'll have. A year doesn't seem like much of a trade-off considering a 40+ year career.
Short term, maybe. Longer term? You'll look more fondly on whatever you did with your year off than you would on getting that promotion a little faster.
Yeah how did you find that gig dude?
How'd you find that gig? I'd go, when are you get the chance to do something like this again
That is honestly the best possible scenario! And you don't even have to say you're leaving for a job. Just explain you're leaving to travel the world because it's always been a goal of yours and you would like to do it before you get too established in your career. Then explain you hope you can return to Deloitte at the end and I bet the partner will probably say they can't guarantee a spot etc etc "...but sounds like a great experience and I'm sure we'd love to have you back!"
It sounds like a cool experience and opportunity. But take a step back and look at the situation for the eyes of the firm: You want to take another job that has a 1-yr contract tied to it and then come back and just pick up right where you left off? Good luck lol
What's driving you to want to take an entire year off? Seems like it would hurt more than just career. Impacts saving money in a major way
Sounds amazing
Do it! We all want to know how you got this gig though OP!
What is this job OP?? Refer me?!
No. Just travel and have cool stories.
