It covers a lot of topics, so you probably won’t get very in depth in any particular method, but it seems like a nice general survey of items.
Looks solid. Yeah, no real difference between R and Python these days, outside of just syntax.
You should be good, looks like a great class
I would take course on Python.
This of similar to how I started. R is also a good introductory language (and outstanding for EDA). Python is more powerful for ml (really no comparison) but I personally enjoy R and trained my first neural networks in R. All in all, the class looks like a good intro. Understand the concepts and the basic math/stats and you won’t have any issue translating into Python down the road.
Where do you go to school?
Texas
What program is this?
There are other courses from Austin university and other places which are quite detailed. If you learn on R , you have to learn again on python. Why not take a course on just python?
Definitely would take it in R. I explicitly looked for jobs without SAS (it’s mostly used in finance anyway). I hate sas with a passion. It’s not even object oriented.
SAS is the devil masquerading as an analytics tool. Also used in healthcare.
Looks good. Make sure you learn dplyr, dbplyr, and caret early-ish, not every program gives them proper emphasis
Do Georgia Tech Online Master of Science in Analytics instead
No I did not. I have researched about such programs and this one was top of my list until I decided not to do 'another' Master's. Solid reviews otherwise.
Part two
My background is software eng and want to transition to specializing in data sci and ML
I agree everyone else. Good breadth, I'd like to ensure they cover limitations of the methods. I may have missed some of the details around clustering fr example, but with this coverage you can dive deeper as necessary.
They are covering a lot so I don’t think you’ll go in-depth on any of that
I prefer R to python anyway
