Consistently billing 190-200 hours per month but being told it's not enough. Firm average is about 165 but my group expects more of us. Anyone have tips for billing more/more efficiently? 200 feels like a struggle- not sure how people hit 250+. 2nd year lit associate if that helps!

Agree with A1. I would explore a lateral move.

200 lit hours a month is a lot, especially if it’s every month. That’s 2400 a year. What lit subgroup are you in?

like

Biggest tip is: bill the full amount of time spent. Don’t cut your own billing, the partner can do that. Sometime I felt I’d take too long researching or drafting and shave some of my own time off, and that was stupid.

190 x 12 is 2280. 200 x 12 is 2400. Both are way over most firms requirements. I would be looking for a firm that doesn’t think either of those is a low number. Not all biglaw is like this.

It’s not like this everywhere, especially in lit. Explore options if you can. This is not great

This is insane. Can’t believe firms like that exist.

For the last four weeks or so of WFH I’ve been making it to my desk around 7:30/8am and working basically without a break—lunch at desk- but cannot maintain momentum past like 6:30/7:30pm. Most of the day is billable work, but I cannot bring myself to finish outstanding assignments after 8pm, but then feel so guilty when I’m not working past that time. Am I burnout or fucked up? (Also I hate this gig & am not in it for the long haul, just hate not turning things quickly)

What is a reasonable expectation for number of documents to review per week for a junior associate? Managing a doc review with a lot of documents to go through and need to assign some batches out to a few junior associates. We’re at a firm where associates on average bill 2400 per year (just mentioning that for a general idea of workload expectations that our associates are well aware of). So we generally have an expectation that associates will grind it out but I also want to be (cont’d)

I have more experience in white collar but have always been interested in employment. I don’t want to lose the complex cases big law offers — will I even get those kinds of cases at a firm like Littler? (More below)

Mid-level recently lateraled to V30 from a regional firm. My last 3 weeks are 225 billed hours with another 70+ coming this week. I have essentially zero support and am responsible for every item in the transaction (nuanced M&A deal). Please tell me this isn’t the typical pace/expectation I signed up for over a typical year.

I interviewed for an associate position at a mid size firm. I really liked them, but they offered the position to someone else, only giving me an answer on the status of my candidacy after that person accepted.

Is it wrong to assume that they hadn’t rejected me sooner in case others didn’t accept? If so, how can I let the firm know I’d like to be considered for future openings? I used a recruiter, should I have her tell them? Should I contact the interviewers directly?

Looking to lateral into a fully remote ECVC role to have more flexibility to move closer to family and to hopefully have a better work life balance. However, I was told by my recruiter that Cooley, Gunderson, and Goodwin said they’re not offering remote roles in ECVC at this time. For some context, I’m class of 2019 coming from a V10 with M&A and CapM experience. Anyone hearing or seeing similar things? Curious if fully remote is no longer offered as much or if the ECVC market has slowed.
