How can companies justify cutting research and development expenses when they literally have no future without it

How do you like to explain to your less science-inclined friends what you do for a living?

Early into career in Technology Consulting at a large firm (think Big 4). Have some experience in implementation and it has been fine but not where I see myself long term. Trying to figure out what other career paths I can go into such as Data Engineering or Data Analytics. Also interested in AI and Emerging technology such as blockchain.

Any advise and/or recommendations on how to navigate different career paths or any resources (learnings or certifications) to look into?

I have an H1b which I received in 2019 and was valid till august2021, due to covid I wasn't able to travel and then I switched to another firm last year in November. If I get visa transfer, will it provide me a validity back as I haven't used any on site time on that visa.

Digging through some of the social media spend, in totality we've spent 120k on LinkedIn ads with 185 conversions. Total. We've spent another 59k on FB/Meta ads with piss poor results and I'm about to look at twitter.

Why are firms still so obsessed with geography? I applied to this firm’s Boston office because I loved the firm, culture, and practice, and half of my interview was about Boston. Sigh. Interviewing with ZS, and recruiter claims that their C level is equivalent of Manager at B4, even though C is the post MBA level which is SA/SC at B4. And at ZS, there is M and AP level before partner while at K there is only Director before PPMD. 8.5YOE (all in consulting) and 180k current base, should I go through with C level interviews? In Business Technology group, would appreciate some guidance on how to understand differences between ZS and B4, title and comp wise and responsibilities.
