Higher education.
I don't know that I would call it a values system, but more of a common "I don't like to work" mentality. You do give up good pay, though.
That's about right...there are some roles that are more hybrid (professor with admin responsibilities i.e. college dean or department chair) but most of the time there's more of a defined separation between academic and admin roles. And they never like one another.
If you do look into higher ed, beware the politics and bureaucracy. Things are painfully slow to happen because of these factors, and there are few places where you'll find that they aren't totally pervasive throughout the entire culture. Academic freedom and fiscal responsibility are opposing forces, each with very strong advocates within the system.
Microsoft does care. It’s part of the values and hoe people are treated here.

That’s okay. I’ve been in consulting since college and I’m at a point where I’m starting to feel suffocated and hopeless. I just really need to know that other options exist, even if they’re lower paying. I’m not as “success”-driven as most of my consulting colleagues. The money for me has just been to pay off student debt. Once that’s done (soon, hopefully) I’m comfortable with a pay cut and more level lifestyle..
Look for a government job - pay is low but they don’t do much work
