Consulting "Humanity" check. If you had a choice of these 2 options what will you choose your company would do?

1) No raises, bonus and promotions for majority of people for 1 year

2) Lay off "bottom" 10% of all employees and some people find their name in the list due to politics.

3) 10% Paycut accross the board for 1 year

3 imo .. I think that % cuts are the most equitable measure for a crisis that affects everyone

#2, getting rid of the bottom 10% helps the 90% be far more efficient. Companies are too risk averse, they’d rather deal with the known deadbeats then hire a bunch of new people. But logically, it’s pretty unlikely the new 10% is worse than the current bottom 10%

like

Did you all read the whole sentence? Some of those 10% probably shouldn’t be there but are simply due to politics

3 if the hit is acute but you expect a bounce back within a year. 2 if you don’t. 1 if you want to drive away your best performers and keep the worst.

2

You're not doing any favors by pitying people. Often low performers need a kick in the pants and really try again at new firm, or even to realize they aren't a fit / interested in this industry

2 no question. If they are at the bottom 10% it wasn’t because of covid so why are we keeping them?

Hi friends, Got two offers. One with: Humana(Remote)[Insurance based company]and another with Mastercard(Hybrid) (Ofallon, MO)-need to relocate after 6 months. Both are for Senior software Engineer. Humana- TC= 155K, Mastercard-TC=175. Which is a better option, as talk are going on that, recession will happen soon. I’m confused to choose, as some say Insurance company doesn’t get effected with recession. Please suggest.

Took my first vacation (1 week) in over a year to visit family. Was bombarded by emails from one partner asking me to complete non-time sensitive motions, which he hasn’t even bothered to review. This is my third firm in three years (first I left as I was severely underpaid, second I left for a 100k increase in salary), but this lack of respect for my boundaries has made me want to move again once I’ve completed 18 mos. Bad? They don’t do this to the other associates (all male).

I’m about to accept a position at an information services company for a marketing coordinator position. They are offering 62k out of a 55k-65k range that I was quoted, and that aligns with my research. It’s much more than what I’m making now, but I thought it would be smart to run this by you all before signing the dotted line. This would be my first time as a marketing coordinator—I’m bringing in 5+ years from an adjacent industry to the table, if that gives perspective. WDYT? Thank you!

I a mid-level litigator and have an offer at a FAANG, however, I still have roughly $230,000 in student debt. If I can delay my start until June, I will receive the newest round of special bonuses and can make a lump sum payment of ~$50,000 (all principal with the 0%). If I decline the offer and stay with my firm, I can make another $50,000 payment at the end of the year. I ultimately want to be in house, preferably in tech. Would I be crazy to decline to use the bonuses to make big chunk pmnts?

One key selling point, as they are trying to offer is the opportunity to work one day a week to use for things like training, acquiring certifications or building applications that you are interested in.

This sounds amazing. I don't get that at my current job. So, is this too good to be true? I would like your opinion on this.

Ex-consultant now in marketing. Used to be an avid follower here and got great insights on companies when trying to exit consulting so thought I’d try here for advice. Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? A company along those lines.
