Consulting Partner currently at $325k OTC base/bonus structure. Way under valued. In final rounds with Microsoft for a level 66/67 role, targeting base/bonus/equity model. 20 years of experience, living in medium cost of living location. I’m looking to finally get comped according to the value I bring. Any advice on what a reasonable target comp splits I should strive for at Microsoft? Maybe negotiate level 68? Maybe 200k base / 40 annual bonus / 300k annual equity? Thoughts?

With 20+ years of experience you should be shooting for total comp at $1m or more.

Yes…

Non competes don’t stop you from keeping contacts hot and using your information to win/ influence work

You will be lapped by your peers shortly … keep that in mind. It’s today’s pay and most likely goes up quickly in first 5 years.

So what you’re saying is I should be reaching much higher to ensure I don’t get lapped when making this move? Aim for 700+ OTC

What’re the various agencies/components’ return to office dates (if announced)? And what’re the remote work policies after that date? I hear DOJ said their individual components will decide when exactly to return between mid-March and early May and some are offering a lot of remote flexibility even after then. Curious to hear more details though, both for specific DOJ components and other agencies!

Is there a general expectation that a Partner has an MBA?

I doubt it's required at most firms but I'm a pretty senior staff and when I speak with Partners, they seem to speak with an MBA level of business knowledge which extends past their technical skillset.

I realize that's what makes them good Partners but it makes me wonder if I realistically need to get an MBA to keep growing and hit Partner.

Huge thanks to all who weighed in on my weight loss post. Have peloton-ed and cut late night food and can see results - with Wegovy as a backup. Thanks to all who commented. Next question - has anybody with larger male body (big shoulders barrel chested long torso short legs wide feet) found high end clothing that fits? All -
I am interviewing for a Strategy leadership role at a SaaS company. A bit rusty on interviews so crowdsourcing from senior folks here, what are best practices or good examples of certain behavioral questions.

1. What is your weakness? I can talk at length about strengths but unclear what weakness to state so as to not mess up my chances.

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? This question is tough because there aren't very many levels above me so cannot say in an EVP role.

I feel a little crazy saying this, but more money at this point doesn’t resonate. I see a ton of exit planning and boomerang threads here, but I’d take a 50% pay cut (or a 50% raise) for an exciting role. That’s totally privilege talking, but I just can’t imagine chasing extra money in PE or lateraling just for the money. No virtue signaling here at all. I actually worry on some level that I’m somehow a moron for not giving a thought to maximizing earnings.
