CONSULTING to INDUSTRY? Folks, after 9 years in Tech and Mgmt Consulting in same company, with exposure of working across many geographies, about to become a Manager in Dec, I have got an offer from an ex client to help them with their Digital Transformation in their Digital/IT dept. - and the position is in Europe, and money is absolutely no comparison to what I make here in India, its TREMENDOUS. If leadership could replace you with someone who would do the same job for less money, they would do it a heartbeat. Do it OP. I was born in India but started my career in Europe and the difference (and respect for) work life balance is ridiculous. Don't think twice, do what's best for you. Frame it as simply wanting to see a new country if you have to, but do it.

I have amazing relations with few leadership here in my firm currently, and I have been a top performer, but without my core team which exited last year to move to a product company, I am now a lone horse. I am still a performer, but leadership knows I will struggle to build the same team again. Even though they respect me, they don't see much traction, and I have been running almost alone since past 1 year. Now I am afraid that if I move, the leadership would definitely want to retain me, as I am driving 2 critical projects as well, but I don't know anymore if I am actually doing justice to myself staying here alone. And that's when this opportunity from Europe presented itself. Hence the big question - should I leave right now, and if yes, how do I not burn bridges with my leadership who told me that if I ever exit, not to exit in a way my team exited last year.

I didn’t take that job. Regrets. I hadn’t factored in the huge benefits of the socialist policies. Vacation days, holidays. Healthcare, social support, job protections, public investment etc. Take it.

I regret not taking it

What can be a good reason to tell my leadership here, so that 1) they don't feel betrayed or question me 2) They don't counter offer to make things awkward. Eg any reason related to money, work life balance, stress, exposure, travel.... They will always have a counter offer. They will tell me to just sit and relax, don't worry about work etc. But I don't want to go into that, otherwise I won't have a strong reason to give, why I am leaving

They may/may not have something to say about it, but I think you need to draw that line. State your reason clearly, and that this chance to go to Europe is important to you and you don’t want to pass on it. Tell them you’re grateful for their help (since you said you’ve been close w them), then make the move that’s best for you. If they still harbor ill will towards you after you leave in a professional way, that’s on them

Thanks PWC1 STRAT1, great to get some perspective. Still waiting to hear back on the opportunity. Would make sure to update you guys on how it turned out. At the outset, let me tell you that I have made up my mind and allowed the fact to sink in that I will quit my current job, if this new one materializes.

Guys, I am still receiving a lot of pull from that ex client who wants me to join his company and move to Europe etc. The position is itself based out of a Scandinavian country. I'm oscillating between the thought of leaving my current firm of 9 years risking to burn bridges with that leadership, and moving to Industry in Europe in a word leading renewable energy company and having a peaceful career etc. I dont know if the move will be a good career move in the long run?

Any suggestions about moving to Industry after 9 years in consulting? Will be my first job change as well! Am I getting scared without any reason? Our is it indeed a not so good move?

In case if I appear for the interview will that again start from the scratch?
