Contemplating jumping from insurance defense to claims examiner for Sedgwick. I currently like most people I work with but there is one unbearable supervisor. I meet my billable rqmts(2000) but it’s never enough. I’m up for partner but have no clients and no idea how to get clients. Despite being perceived as a valuable attorney, I know the client development weakness will become a bigger problem over time. This position comes with a pay bump, vacation days and wlb promise. Is there a catch?

It’s often easier to develop business with a partner title than an associate one, from what I have heard. You are 1 step away from potential ownership in a business and you’d rather take 5 steps down and be an employee for an insurance company in an economy that is sliding into recession? Keep your head up! Take a deep breath. Stay the course. No chance I’d want to be just another “new employee” at a big corporation right now. You’ve made it so far, don’t tap out now. Plus, with a partner title, your legal exit opps could be even better.

Thank you for your thoughts. I should clarify I’m up for non-equity partner. Actual ownership of the firm is still way out of reach. And I don’t actually feel great about my non-equity prospects because client development is such a factor in that vote. I agree development will be easier with the title but development is also necessary for the title-catch 22. I don’t look at any of the equity partners and think, gosh, I can’t wait to have what they have. They all seem miserably overworked.

I would definitely get away from a toxic supervisor. Is there a way to make a lateral move at the same firm?

Unfortunately, no because the way the firm is organized. And I’m not interested in moving if it’s just to another firm.

I did it and I’ve never been happier

So I work for a carrier and disclosure I only started in may but I love it I can take time off I have a life

Can anyone here familiar with FDM Group shed more light on their contracts and operations? All I know about them is that their pay is grossly under market value even as a junior developer in training. Also you are locked into a 2 year contract in which you have to pay them should you leave for a higher paying job for example.

Does this group also have a non-compete which prevents you from working a second job should you need more money?

I finished the recruiter, and hiring manager interviews, both went very well. The hiring manager wants to fly me to their location to “show me the site” but I haven’t heard back for almost a week.
When I let the recruiter know I had other opportunities and needed an update, they said they were finalizing getting the panel together, so it sounds like a group interview.
This is for a senior role at a rapidly growing startup, do I just need to chill?

I just finished an interview and the hiring manager made some comments during the interview that I believe are 🚩🚩🚩. Among the comments were, “the person needs to help show Sr. Management the FP&A dept is important and brings value.” “I’m going to be honest, we have other candidates for this position, you need to bring your game to the second interview”. The rest of the interview was describing their problems as a dept and then proceeds to ask if I can handle it. How can I respectfully decline?

How important is firm culture/WLB vs practice area? I’m a first year associate working for a firm I summered for. It’s a boutique tax firm with some civil litigation. I love the lit work (have always wanted to do litigation) but I truly hate the tax and corporate work.
The WLB is really good though. My boss is generally pretty flexible with my hours, and understanding with family responsibilities (I’m a mom). I have a 1500 billable req and I work very well with my boss.

Salary comparison question here. Class of 2016, been doing lit ever since but switched firms last summer from boutique to lit/ins defense firm of about 30 lawyers. 2000 billable req. and salary just shy of $80k w/potential for quarterly bonus for billable hours and yearly bonus for receipts by 12/31. I’m in the South in a medium sized city (think ~700k not like ATL). Not looking to see what all you big law folks are bringing in but just curious about where I stand when review happens.
