Corgi owners. What are your average food, grooming and medical costs annually? Soo close to pulling the trigger on a tri color puppy but don't want to make a shot gun decision on emotion because of how freaking cute he is. 😭😭😭

Also assume the dog has no genetic problems or preexisting conditions.

Don’t let the adopters shame you. Buying is fine just make sure the lineage isnt incest, get akc, see if you can tour the place first and see the puppies meet the mom/dad. Don’t want to get from a puppy farm. Just do your research

like

The adopt don’t shop mindset is toxic. You don’t say this to people wanting kids when there is sadly so many children in the system in desperate need or adoption / fostering. People can buy a puppy responsibly. Heaven forbid they want to ensure breed/temperament/lineage etc.

likehelpful

No idea but the cost of adopting a rescue instead is priceless.

like

while some rescues are hella picky, i feel like shelters are usually have more realistics standards. A couple rescues turned me down when i was looking for a dog and i got mine from a shelter, i was a single female living in an apartment with a roommate who had a dog. I didn't really care for a breed but rather age and size, so it's harder if you absolutely want a corgi. Then you may have to go to a breeder. And honestly, as long as you love and care for your pup who cares if you didn't get them from a shelter

I had no issue adopting from the local shelter as a single person and when I lived in an apartment. Look elsewhere.

Definition of priceless
1a : having a value beyond any price : invaluable. b : costly because of rarity or quality : precious. 2 : having worth in terms of other than market value.

Lots of shelters will allow adoptions from out of state as well.

Try the humane society. Lots of dogs there need homes. Sorry that didn’t answer your question lol but adopt don’t shop!

like

Was the first place I looked. I got "blacklisted" because I don't have a fenced in back yard.

Our corgi is pretty low maintenance, but he sheds like crazy, year round, and barks at everything! He's almost 10 and still acts like a puppy. He's super cute, smart, and has an entertaining personality.

like

Hi! As with any dog, you can somewhat influence your budget. For example, DIY baths at home instead of booking a groomer. What’s more important is knowing the breed and the potential puppy so you fully understand what you’re getting into. Most corgis have lots of energy and need a job to do, hence why rescues are expecting you to have a yard. But some of us get lucky and find super chill, low maintenance corgi couch potatoes. If you’re working with a good, reputable breeder they should help pair the puppy with your experience/preference. Best of luck finding your perfect pup!

You can call groomers in your local area and ask for their pricing / look online. Medical costs - the first year of any puppy is the most expensive with their spay/neuter plus all the injections but after it’s pretty stable (no medical emergencies assumed). I think I’ve spent maybe $800 this year for a handful of visits of which I got a decent chunk reimbursed through insurance. Pet insurance is pretty reasonable and you definitely should get it to protect you from any $$$ bills from emergencies or any issues that develop. many plans do 80-90% reimbursement after a couple hundred expenditure and often cover annual injections / heartworm test etc. Food depends - I spend $80 on food a month for my pup, probs with treats $100 but there is cheaper options (my dog is just super picky and only eats one brand of kibble 🙄). Also don’t forget to consider if you wanna get a walker or send them to daycare at all.

I use pumpkin insurance but have friends who use Lemonade and Nationwide. Happy to help! :)

Adopt, don't shop.

Corgis are extremely likely to have hip issues and other preexisting/genetic conditions that are going to cost you $$,$$$ over their lifetime due to the nature of the breed mixed with their internet popularity causing very bad incestuous breeding conditions for profit.

Well…I tried to get a cat last year and I applied to no less than 10 shelters. I was screened and denied by several and just denied by many. The had me fill out financial forms and wanted references. I’m a parent and former/previous cat owner and have plenty of money. But I don’t take my healthy cats to the vet every 6 months. And that’s the cat equivalent of the “fenced yard,” I guess. They call your vet for a reference. I didn’t have a vet, (I have several I’d taken them to for rabies boosters and any issues.)

So I’m backing you up that in many cases the adoption people make it very very hard.

(I did finally find a cat an hour away that had a heath issue and I was willing to drive weekly for check ups and had the means to cover his care, and he’s the love of my life.)

uplifting

Omg y’all are annoying 😂

Will the people manager listen or send it to IBM doctor for validation? And is there any doctor in IBM or its just the people manager who takes the decision?
