You can't compare statistics from an entire year to a two month old virus that is rapidly spreading

Go back to my new cases graph

600 million Chinese are not going to school and work... Saudis basically cancelled the Hajj... for “just the flu bro”

like

All of these are facts, yet people still think it’s overblown. Chinese are losing billions by stopping their factories. They would not do that unless shit hit the fan hard.

like

Just wait until the virus hits the 80+ million uninsured/under insured people in this country. Then we will have some of them voting for Medicare for all.

like

Kind of the same, right?

Get a shot. Having Flu and SARs2 is probably extra bad... please Replace with, “just flu bro.” Flu R0: 1.39, SARs2 R0: 4.5-6.4 Flu kills 0.01%, we have yearly vaccines. SARs2 2% but near zero under 30, 4% over 60 (because many over 60 have hypertension or/and T2D.) When it hits it will crowd out all current care. People will die of things that are being dealt with now. What needs to happen for people to take it serious, Pope gotta croke??? More Imams??? Who???

Sure on a localized level these cases will continue to pop up, but that will be converse to the overall broader trend.

Mark my words and hold me accountable: Give this 60 days and watch this blow over. New cases are declining. I’d love to see the reaction of the Harvard-based epidemiologist

funny

New cases are already leveling off- see graph below

Past generations have been through far worse with smallpox, polio, measels, typhoid, Black Plague as you mentioned. Personally I would go to the convention. The media likes to generate panic in these situations, and I think it would be foolish to shut down life.

I’m still looking for evidence that this isn’t blown out of proportion.

Correct. Iran is showing what will happen in low quality health systems. 5% CFR and not 2%....

0.1% death rate for flu. 3.3% death rate for beervirus. Your move.

OPs mom is still working. Gives us some perspective

I hear that from China too, with 10% of normal economic activities. Watch what people do, not say or data they fake... look at Thailand reported vs “viral pneumonia,” deaths uh 12 vs 3k oops.

China saw a decrease in new cases - could be in part due to the government’s reaction or also due to the shelf life of the virus, just like SARS died down. 75k total cases worldwide, and most are around Wuhan. Some bet, like the Harvard epidemiologist, that 40% receive the virus. Others like me think this will die down. With uncertainty and severe media scrutiny people panic.

I know it’s all been said before. I would’ve never expected to be in this kind of situation or that it’d go on for so long. Others have lost far more than I have due to COVID. I’m grateful for my health. But I still feel an insurmountable sense of loss from everything that’s happened. A professional opportunity I worked for years to achieve had finally materialized and then disappeared just as quickly. I feel isolated and hopeless, just trying to survive and one day see an end to the madness.

Help me out, everyone seems to be having much milder symptoms with Omicron. I was caught off guard at my compensation meeting by getting a raise to $100k but also getting a promotion. The raise was decent and it was the minimum I was expecting, but since I got promoted as well I thought the amount should have been higher.
