I’ll take a coronavirus and 15 days in a cozy isolation ward over no virus and my next 15 days of hell

I'm in South Korea and I'm not worried...oh shit I forgot my mask today! Worried!

like

Yes. We still don’t even know if this stuff is contagious before or after symptoms emerge and global supplies of medical suits and masks are already running out. The flu epidemic in the 1800s killed more than 80 million people...and they didn’t have air travel. Let’s all hope the virus dies out on its own like SARS.

like

I meaaan, as recently as 1968 the flu killed over 500,000 people in just Hong Kong alone (over 1 million globally). I don’t know if you can move on from an illness there’s no cure for 🤷‍♂️

I’m more worried about stock market being down because of it, taking a real hit :/

I'm more worried about getting the flu bc that seems more likely right now

WPP just asked all people in China to WFH after lunar new year and restricted any non essential business travel to and from.

like

Most companies did. I know the Groupe and some others as well (outside our industry)

Maybe not this virus but sooner or later we could be living The Stand or Outbreak. I’m a little concerned. Time to think about a bug out bag again to get me out of the city.

Bruh they don't skin animals alive because they're impoverished or lack privilege. They do it because the animals taste better that way.

China is a unique place, and the disease came from there because of thất unique situation, that frankly, you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the world.

Shoulda Corona Brand be nervous? Should they respond somehow? Thoughts?

Conspiracy theorist here: anyone notice these viral freak outs always seem to align to a political moment? SARS, bird flu, swine flu, now coronavirus. Not saying they aren’t happening. Not saying they aren’t worrisome. But the stats aren’t all that different from typical colds and flus, the media just seems to be causing us to look at the shiny thing instead of discussing an impeachment or rift with Iran.

Or maybe distracting from a publicly humiliating popular uprising in Hong Kong against the Chinese state 🤔

I mean I didn’t die of Ebola when that infected doctor rode the subway in Williamsburg, so.

Do I think they are covering up just how many people are infected? Yes. Do I think this is basically just pneumonia? Also yes. It is worrisome for elderly people, pregnant women, and children, but not for healthy adults. The people who have passed have mostly been elderly.

They need to figure it out to protect those people with weaker immune systems, but when I see people my age (20’s-30’s) thinking they are going to drop dead I can’t help but laugh. They will figure it all out.

like

No.

I lived in Toronto when it was SARS central in 2003. I’m not worried.

I’ve been back in the office since April/May on a very limited basis, and what I’ve learned is that creatives and account people should not be placed in a covid-spaced conference room together for long periods of time. I’m not disparaging our account team - they are extremely smart and overall fantastic - but there’s a reason why one needs space from the other. It’s like putting two attack fish in a bowl.

My son finished his first year of college and transitioned to community college as covid19 rose up.

He learned to code in python during this pandemic from university of YouTube and has already started to create a shoe shopping app! He LOVES to code and wants to learn more. He doesn’t love taking philosophy or physics in college. He can spend hours coding

Looking for guidance.
Continue down traditional 4 year degree route, computer/data science.
Or do an intense coding boot camp-remotely

What's your favorite BBQ / rib place in Boston? We've had amazing takeout from The Smoke Shop in the Seaport during Covid lockdown. The ribs are pure heaven and the chicken wings are also amazing. The only complaint is that they no longer have collard greens and they charge you for extra bbq sauce, which seems pretty chintzy when you're dropping $50-70 on food.

I’m new to sales, been in my current role 6ish months. I pivoted to the job out of Covid necessity, but am enjoying it more than anticipated. Would like to stay in the field. I’m wondering what resources are out there to explore other job options (BDR/SDR/AE etc) and/or other industries (seems like there is a lot of SaaS sales here). I have a bachelors degree, and 10 years experience in the performing arts at international caliber institutions.

Just graduated w a FT offer at a T2 (S&O, OW, LEK). However, full time start date has been pushed to next year. Is there any way to recruit for MBB in the next coming months? (Realise that hiring is low because of COVID)

Had two final rounds w MBB during UG recruiting and if I have to wait several months to start FT. Iwould rather start a career w MBB if at all possible.

Is industry overrated? I’m finishing up my first year as an analyst and I can’t help but feel like I’m missing out on life because of the demands that work has on my schedule. Not just the hours, but the uncertainty of if I’ll have to work late or not. I’m praying I’ll be able to find something in industry that has better WLB and pays similarly but is that a realistic expectation? Sometimes I wonder if this is just the reality of having a job and I need to get used to the real world.
