I worked in a sweatshop non Guangzhou from age 7-18 to save up to come to America… quit Latham after 1 year because I missed the work/life balance

As someone who worked at LW, in NY and in the Valley at other Valley firms, less intense than certain firms on the East coast, about the same as other Valley firms. Make no mistake: if you are in transactional law at nearly any firm right now, you are going to be slammed.

Interested to know this for Corp specialty groups.

Junior at LW right now. I think we’re working as much if not a little bit less than most NYC transactional groups. Thankfully our groups are large enough that the work is spread out and leadership has done a decent job at staffing across offices to spread the workload.

Interesting, had a friend leave LW Corporate recently because of how bad it was getting.

I think it’s usually great - fantastic team and atmosphere and you’re fine with “just” doing your 1,900 hours. This year is insane, but it is for everyone. We’ve got way more work and had a lot of people leave. We are hiring though and, crucially, the partners really are trying various things to ease the burden as they don’t actually want everyone to be this slammed. So I would not normally consider it a sweatshop at all. But this year is rough!

Thanks! I put in my application yesterday so now it’s time to play the wait and see game

Proposal touch point near EOD. I will be PTO tomorrow and unavailable most of the evening. Does it make sense to still attend or should I just decline the invite? I’m kind of nervous saying that I’ll be unavailable for action items. First proposal so sorry for the newb question.

how long does it take to get h1b amended (LCA) to travel for work usually?

I know this is a story that repeats in this bowl but I’ve finally reached my end with this industry. While the pay is great, I’ve grown to dread work. I understand that client side isn’t utopia but where else does a “seasoned” ad person end up?

Returned from sick leave and found out from other people at the office I totally messed up on a project that I worked on prior to sick leave. Now that my reputation has been ruined and facing an upcoming negative performance review. No one at the office stood up for me despite of positive work done prior to COVID or wants to hear what I have to say. I m bothered by this gaslighting practice both professionally and personally. I felt I was designated as the scape goat. Continued.

I started a new job a month ago and I think I've made a huge mistake. I wanted work life balance, went to a well-known company that has a reputation for it, and have quickly learned that this will be quite the opposite. I am beginning to panic. How do I deal with applying for jobs, specifically the issue of "erasing" this job from my work history without getting in trouble? I feel weird stating that my last job is my "present" one but is there any other option?

How are most teachers plan on giving assessments to students who are remote learners? My school is everyday half-day for students (guardians) who chose to be in school. All other students are remote learners every day. That means I had classes with students who are physically there as student to are there through Google meets. I'm just trying to see what other teachers are doing to balance the two types of learners and how give fair assessments.....

So today I was promoted to senior associate after just over 5 years at the firm. But I still want to leave. So my question is this - how many months should I stay for the guilt (explained below) to fade away before I leave? Guilt - the firm allowed me to work remotely in another country as I pursue a postgraduate degree. There are better opportunities in this country and the salary I would get as a starting salary here can never be matched by the firm.

Ladies who did long distance with their partners- how did you make it work logistically? My bf and I live 3 hours apart (flight distance) and we see each other every 3-4 weeks and spend two weeks together when we do. It's hard (my love language is physical touch), especially since we are in the early stages of relationship. We met 5 months ago and been exclusive for 2 months. We talk everyday but i still miss him a lot and it's tough
