Could anyone share examples with me of how your agency’s briefing docs (creative briefs, channel briefs etc..) includes prompts for diversity and inclusion or cultural considerations?

We have to put something in writing in every casting brief and always have. Otherwise casting directors are hopeless and we get all white actors because they claim that’s who shows up to the casting call. They have to dig deeper and search beyond the usual pool for diverse talent. I usually write something like this. Considerations: Diversity is very important for this role. Please include all ethnicities; African American, Asian American, Hispanic and Native American and Caucasian women. In your case, for a creative brief you would normally mention a specific demographic in the target audience section. So maybe you can add a consideration like: Please explore culturally relevant scenarios for the target audience, but be thoughtful. This could open a can of worms, even just here in fishbowl. But maybe we can workshop it.

That’s really up to you. My point is that you can list anything under headings like Considerations, Background or References. You’re really only providing a reminder, not an education. We’re all aware of the issues, but it never hurts to reinforce or give context.

I make it a verbal ask in every client briefing

Do you mind expanding upon what question(s) you ask specifically?

Or even prompts you WISH your agency included in briefs related to diversity and inclusion?

There was an agency producer who sent out a call recently that said, “We’d love to consider diverse directors for this,” and a white woman production company owner threw a fit and threatened to sue because she thought that wasn’t fair to her white director based overseas, so some American agencies are now being counseled not to mention diversity at all in when sourcing vendors.

This person sounds like one random EP whose business has suffered in the pandemic, so they’re resorting to scare tactics. It doesn’t mean they have any legal grounds.

Where do you draw the line between sexism and being old-fashioned? I’m a young female on a mostly male defense project and one of the older men always opens car doors for me, refuses to let me hold a door or drive anywhere, and seems to strongly believe in traditional gender roles in his own family. I believe he thinks this is being respectful, but it rubs me the wrong way.

Quite disappointed that Bain ignored “LGBT” term and instead referred it as “special group” during a Greater China pre-MBA info session, when asked whether Bain has LGBT diversity program. Bain changed its logo into Pride on LinkedIn but can’t recognize LGBT? I know it’s China, but expect Bain to be more supportive across the firm globally.

I am currently unemployed but I am very curious about everyone’s company signature having she/her or he/him or they displayed. Are companies forcing people to write the pronouns you need to choose? I honestly never understood why somebody that wasn’t in the LGBTQ community would specify, and I know people are doing it to show support but if I started working again I don’t think I would want to put that in my signature. It seems political. What are your thoughts?

Hey everyone! I have been working at a small firm for 10 years. Specifically, work comp, PI, and social security. I often feel like I don't get enough money for everything I do. Anyone else feel this way? I do paralegal work, legal assistant work, legal billing, accounts receivable, etc. for three Attorney's. We do Claimant work and Defense.

At a former company, they let you expense $20 for working 10+ hours in a day, but you could never use it because it would always be rejected. Recently started at a new firm, and I had a rough week last week (two 14+ hour days). New firm has a similar policy, so I asked. Was told not to submit the $20 reimbursements. Just as I was about to get frustrated, he told me I should get dinner for my wife and me. Only rule was to keep it under $100. Don't like working 14 hour days, but this was nice.
