Could I pull off asking my manager from J1 for approval of freelancing on the side? It’s quite common anyway for designers I think. And then my j2 can be “freelance” even though it’s full time?

So… I am working on a project with outside consultants that wraps up this week. I’m feeling some kind of “vibe” with one of the male consultants and I am wondering how to figure out if I am imagining things or whether there is actually something there. He lives is another state and it doesn’t seem likely our paths will cross again.

What are effective ways to ensure your team feels content within the workplace? There is a rise of many people feeling undervalued and not cared for as an employee. I would like to change that. No matter the job, no one should feel less than.

My organization absorbed another and the former deputy PM became a branch head - a demotion. For org was more focused on tech dev and not delivering a product on a sked. New org is very focused on that. He is not a driving leader, but is the only one with the tech knowledge needed. He is retirement eligible. He has no heir apparent - previous org didn’t plan that way. If I move him under someone who is a driver - he retires and I lose the knowledge. If I don’t, we may not meet schedules. Advice?

In small companies (especially startups), where HR may not really exist or the HR person may be the main violator, how do you deal with inappropriate behavior. If a person has been there a long time and is "too important to fire" how do you handle them?

At a startup I left because of this, my boss had been there since day 1. He was a nightmare. The last straw was when he took out his anger at a home issue on me and made fun of me for being upset. HR told me they couldn't do anything about him.

When you tell your manager you are unhappy and they are excited that you are putting your notice and don't try and make any changes b/c the new person/persons they are lining up will just cleanup and make it better.

Then, they get here and you are left to train them on everything you do and your manager keeps saying "I owe you an apology" because they didn't realize how taxing and mind wrecking most processes you handled were... welcome to corporate

I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. I’ve kept J1 because I’m still on the bench doing absolutely nothing and getting paid. J1 & J2 together make about 200k although there is no room for growth in either but WLB is amazing (< 10hrs per week). Stuck contemplating if I should abandon overemploy to chase promotions seeing that I could eventually get to my current salary with my job. Just feeling a little stuck over all. The first rule of overemployment is dont talk about overemployment to anyone outside your house. :). Second: always protect the main job. Third: As the main job always has the priority, the Second and third jobs must preferably be contract gigs with not too many meetings everyday. Remember: another day, another dollar.
