How much money did you have saved by the time you were 30?

Anyone else feel weird that they will likely never make as much as their parents/provide their kids a similar childhood? The odds of making MD/Partner are outright low, and a lot of luck is involved. Statistically it’s likely I’ll fail out around M/SM and peak at that salary forever.

As I prepared to file my notice, the partner of the firm called me and asked me to stay. They’re willing to promote me mid year in December and increase salary next year in August. The current offer I have gives 60% pay increase and Partner still can’t match that offer after promotion. Firm leadership says here I have potential to be a partner in 8 years and talk about all the leadership support I have rn which is fair. Is this one of their tactics to make me stay or should I just leave…

I consider myself a gen xer. I feel that in the past, longevity and loyalty to a company was the trend. Now, i see ppl with resumes and they stay for less than a year in a job and change jobs constantly. The younger generation and are so eager to move up the ladder. I wonder if the move up is too fast and is really justified. Or perhaps the younger generation feels a lot more entitled and are more aggressive. Thoughts?

HELP! I just got a BCG consultant offer. PwC paid for my MBA. I still need to work here for 3 more years before not owing any of it back (currently would have to pay 100% of it if I left). Is the move worth it? Or should I maybe push to move to Strategy& (internal move) instead of BCG?

I am noticing that McKinsey is increasingly recruiting at non-elite schools (very roughly speaking not top 15 schools). At my old undergrad, 5 years ago the most competitive firm to show up was EY. This year McKinsey took 4 non-internship full hires. Why is McKinsey going “down market” for recruiting? Are elite school kids losing interest in consulting so McK has to cast a wider net? Or is McK seeking a wider pool for other reasons? I advise undergrads on consulting so want to be best informed.

Hi Guys. Need help evaluating two offers: 1. McKinsey - Associate in Risk Consulting - $165K base/30K sign-on. NYC/Chicago. 2. Facebook - Program Manager in Security and Privacy - $160K base/$100K RSUs over 4 years/$20K sign-on. Bay Area I have 6 YOE at Deloitte in Cyber since graduating college. Why don't more (white collar) Americans take breaks in-between jobs? Like a month or two summer break. Is this mindset that you need to work all the time a vestige from back when people would work at the same company for 40 years until they die?
