Some of the things I would consider:
-What are the first year SM targets for util and sales/MR?
-Will the firm relax those standards given the climate?
-Are promos to SM even going to happen, and if so, will there be a full complement of SM promos or just scaled down to the absolute top candidates?
-If the latter point is the case, would you have to expend political capital to make it into the short(er) promo list?
^^ this, plus what market are you in? Is it suffering now with the current crisis, or thriving? If suffering, not sure you want to jump into the SM pool and struggle your first year. May be better to wait. If thriving, get your bathing suit on stat.
I'd look at it even more simply - what's your current pipeline. Are you on an engagement for medium to long term where you can manage existing work and close new deals/phases?
If the answer is no, id wait.
Or do you have a network that can help you...
Pipelines shrink and grow, but you want to have people who are invested in your success. They’ll find a way to pick you up if needed.
Go for it. If you network is solid, you have to push for it.With the outlook somewhat down, this is your chance to make a name for yourself by bringing in some deals and leading initiatives as an SM. No risk, no reward.
