I saw a wonderful post on prepping somewhere that, as a dog parent, made me want to post something about pets. We have time now to prepare for, what I would consider the inevitable, large spread in the United States. We often don’t have that luxury in an acute emergency.

While I completely understand that family and kids come first, when prepping, if finances allow, please don’t forget about your pets. Many pet food companies rely on vitamin mixes and ingredients from all over the world. It is a logical next step to realize that, very soon, these supply chains could also be disrupted.

I encourage you to get some food for your pets. A rough rule of thumb is that a dog or cat will eat 1/2 of their body weight in pounds per month. So a 50 pound dog will consume 25 pounds of food per month. Most pet food has a sealed shelf life of ~ 2 years. You could easily throw a bag or two in your garage or basement to make sure you have something on hand in the case supply chains go down and you won’t be out any money.

Edited to add: most pets will consume water to the tune of 1 ounce/pound/day.

And, heck, worst case scenario...you can eat it yourself.

At the beginning of covid, my firm cut pay and made the decision to halt lock-step increases this year. Makes sense. They have not reversed this despite the firm hitting over the projected budgets. They are also hiring over 10 new associates to start this month and next. They are milking this covid shit right? Am I wrong for thinking they should take care of their current employees before bringing on new ones? I'm pissed and annoyed. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong.

I'm on vacation starting today at 5pm until 1/24. Was originally gonna fly somewhere but cancelled bc covid. Then planned to drive and see family. Now I can't because I have a huge work emergency to deal with. I've had this time blocked off for 6 months and I'm still gonna have to work. First party property really is where souls go to die

I got a brand new apartment in Seattle close to $2k / month back in March. Problem is, my SO can't come to visit (restricted from coming to the city). so I'm staying with them. The situation went from being a dread to being awesome. I have 4 monitors and a great office set up.

It's $600/mo for both of us if we didn't have the apt.

The problem is, I don't know what to do with my apartment now. I might want to go back after covid, but I don't think so.

Do I try to sublet or hold on to it?

I’m trying to help a friend find an entry-level role in advertising/marketing/production. He has a degree in media and production and some experience doing content and social for a summer camp.

Looking for help finding a remote opportunity (because of Covid) to get his foot in the door. Anybody looking? Any advice on entry-level positions that aren’t financially prohibitive (requiring ad school or unpaid internships)? Any leads on opportunities?

Who has the best covid (consulting) employer? Obviously there are chunks of the workforce that are being laid off and I feel for them, but beyond keeping your job, has your employer done anything to make the situation better? I am hearing rumors of increased pay (to offset lack of expense budget which is factored into our comp), budgets for home office, going above and beyond to cover unpaid covid testing etc.

I just swore into my state's bar. Law is my second career (I'm in my early 30's). I had a clerkship in a criminal court lined up that was rescinded because of a COVID hiring freeze. I'm looking for a job as an associate somewhere, any practice area (though criminal law is my ideal area). Does anybody have any tips for a brand new attorney on how to start? I'm used to just sending my resume and a cover letter to potential employers from my time in my previous field; should I be networking more?
