How can you compare a degree to a professional license? They serve different purposes.

SA1 .. do they really? I have a masters in tax. Im a senior. Was told I need CPA to get promoted to manager.

@ PwC 1... how did you plan to sign off on those returns w/o a CPA license?

likefunny

Both check the box for promotion to middle management

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Depends on for what.

One is essentially required the other is not

KPMG 2. Exactly my point.
SA1 said both check the box for promotion. They don't.

Would you still suggest getting an MBA if I already have a CPA?

funny

Totally depends on where you get your MBA. Go get an MBA if you want to be in investment banking, PE, Hedge, or management consulting

like

You should probably do the MBA.

Tax manager 1, why?

Because if you are comparing the two, being an accountant isn’t your passion and you will just be unsatisfied.

Now if you were comparing CPA vs MSA then I would say get both as long as someone else is paying.

And if so, what if it’s part time vs full time?

To me i think, Mba top 5 > cpa > rest of mbas

I wish I knew what I wanted to be when a grow up

Looking for advice on where to head next. Now I'm mostly working with Azure Databricks, SQL, and a little bit of Ansible CI/CD.
After 12 months I can influence where my next role is and I'm wondering what is the best career direction.
The next role can include
C#,
APIs,
React,
DevOps / Ansible,
Or more Azure Synapse & Databricks
Which of these languages / technologies is good for my future in tech? Or does it matter?

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.
