I am trying to land an exciting position but the team wants to see if I have a lot of media relationships. I was just an AAE at my old firm and I don’t have many yet. Any advice on how to proceed?

I am an MBB partner and have been approached by a recruiter with a Senior Partner opportunity in the strategy unit if one of the big 4, in a different country. Advancement in my current Firm is unlikely in my current context So this would imply a more senior role, the opportunity to rebuild a practice, and likely doubling comp. However, I see it as a downgrade in prestige and the talent pool, and above all find it strange they look for someone outside the Firm. Any thoughts or advise?

Best career option in tech for generalists?

I’ve been working for almost three years as a “data scientist” at a start up but basically been doing everything from gathering requirements from clients, doing UI/UX design, coding the front-end (angular), building and shipping ML models in sagemaker, and managing AWS infrastructure.

I’m planning to change jobs to find a role with clearer responsibilities. What role in tech suits someone who knows a bit of everything but is a master of none?

I lateraled from a small firm to regional big law last year. I was told that my offer was commensurate with class year (5th year). The firm recently increased first year salary, with a 5% increase for all other attorneys. My original salary was equal to the new first year salary. The difference between my new salary and a first year is now $10k. I think it is fairly obvious that the hiring partner was not truthful with me. How would you address this? Is another lateral move my only option?

I'm considering switching from a low-touch, high-volume portfolio of brands to a very engaged role with a small amount of brands at my agency. I love the freedom of my current role (very few number of calls with individual brands, but hundreds of initial touch point calls), but the standard role in my industry (affiliate marketing) involves ongoing calls with a small group of brands.

What gift would you give your wife to celebrate 10 years of marriage?

I have worked 6 years in the midwest and have found it nearly impossible to built mentorship and strong work relationships with senior white people (both genders) above age 45 who are US born and bred, the WASPy kind. I can never find a way to network into their "groups". Yet I've been able to build awesome relationships with senior people and mentors who are Indian, Asian, Brown and European white. Is this in my head, or have some of you experienced the same?

Did anyone else adopt the new Florida Wonders curriculum? We just adopted it this school year, and I teach 4th grade. My team and I have not found a good flow, schedule, or whatever you want to call it. We feel like it teaches too many skills in one lesson, and we are not able to truly teach anything “deep” enough for students to master. Does anyone have any insight? What do you do? How long is too long to wait for a raise? I've been waiting seven years and have had 2 title (and responsibility) promotions since the last raise. My manager says I deserve it and am long overdue. The CEO says we "can't afford it" and that "there are things that matter more than money." That's easy for someone not living paycheck to paycheck (during an inflation crisis) to say. I don't know what to do. How long is normal to wait? Especially with an employee's market like this?

Has anyone moved from being a design lead to design ops? I have always loved helping steward a team and mentoring individuals, but I’m burnt out on day to day design. I don’t want to be limited to design and want to move to a new kind of challenge.

I am aware that this comes with some learning and personal and professional investment, so I’m not afraid to pivot in that sense.
