Layoffs at Walmart corporate 😬😬
Hi fishes,
Any guess how many people are laid off from Publicis sapient in past few days? Really scared for my future as I'm also under probation period and deeply regret for my choice of joining this firm...I don't understand why were they recruiting peeps when they were short of projects. Publicis Sapient
Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

I don't have a problem with those kinds of posts in general.
Now, if they're saying something to the effect that *because* of the layoffs they made partner, that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.
How the post is framed makes quite a bit of difference, but I don't see anything inherently wrong about promotion posts, whether there are layoffs or not.
All that said, I tend to think promo posts are self-congratulatory, which I don't care for, but that's personal preference.
These people worked hard and they want to share with their network. I don’t see an issue. Everybody is going through a tough time right now. These type of posts are the little bit of normalcy we have left.

I smell jealousy.
Why do these posts bother people? It’s not divisive at all. There’s no malice. It’s literally people being happy
In a normal situation perhaps (although I wouldn’t do it), but if OP is talking about one of the firms that did layoffs, a little sensitivity and self awareness isn’t unreasonable.

If you’re at the point where people can’t post a self-congratulatory note about making Partner and thanking a few people, then that says a lot about you.

Linkedin is turning into instagram. People won't say anything negative or call out this kind of narcicistic behavior so it's going to get worse. Everybody needs to get their ego boost on social media

Yes saw a few similar posts, and I thought it was highly insensitive given the current market situation and layoffs.... these leaders lack empathy and lack basic logic... which makes me wonder how they qualified!

D5 you continue to ride your high horse.... 🙄
Yes. I saw one 3 letter consulting firm recently congratulate all it’s leadership on this year’s promotes. While it’s fantastic this company is thriving and succeeding, I thought it lacked major sensitivity when so many are losing their jobs. Perhaps to someone else success presents hope. We all perceive things differently.
Yikes
It's still an accomplishment that someone should be proud of achieving. Why dampen your pride you worked a decade to reach because it might hurt the feelings of a few folks who got cut? I agree with the self congrats going on way too much, but don't make anyone feel guilty for achieving anything they worked hard for. Nobody had any problem doing it before with the amount of inequality out there
I see many of these differently. Maybe because I'm still employed but here is why:
Promotions are cause for celebration! People have worked hard to get there. LinkedIn is a professional platform so highlighting a milestone like this is warranted. Thanking people even better. Getting a peek at their personal side (story of how they got there) is a bonus.
Sometimes I forget to keep in touch. Seeing a post by or from someone I know is a great reminder and opportunity to reconnect. Hey saw that you just got promoted and would love to catch up!
If you're looking for a job, why not rekindle these relationships too? Just do it in a friendly way. And celebrate them. They worked hard and you know what? Now they have more pull to help others. If you don't know them, now you know of them and can see if you have any common ground to connect on. Obviously do your research first.
I know these are hard times but sometimes I feel like some folks are working extra hard to find the negative these days. Let's not make it harder on ourselves or others.

Assuming the layoffs part is an addition OP made, I don't really understand people's gripe with these types of posts.
A lot of consulting firms fire a lot of people every year - it's literally part of the business model. If you extended the logic of this post, no one should ever post about anything positive that happened to their consulting career whatsoever.
It's possible to be happy about your achievements and empathetic to those who've been let go at the same time. We practice this every day outside of LinkedIn. So what's the problem with people wanting to share happiness over that achievement with their professional network?
^ is this for real? Should share a screenshot.

No way that’s real...
The layoffs bit and tone-deaf stuff is made up by me to prove the point, that when these firms are laying off hundreds, these people brag about their new promotion.
The rest is completely true and LinkedIn was filled with them on 1st July

I “turned-of” LinkedIn and don’t regret it one bit. I see little value left in it.
It's the folks at PwC right? I'm seeing a ton of bragging on LinkedIn at the moment.
Yep - on the 1st it was an avalanche. Sure be proud, but as someone said upthread, there are quite a few being let go, so on this occasion, it may be better to be muted
Is that second part really included in the post?
No OP says later that is how they are interpreting the post
I’m all for top performing people to get what they deserve.
Our firm gave promotions on schedule, but we’re not giving pay increases until C-19 pay cuts have been made even, then we’ll pay a little extra for a couple months to make it even for the people who just got promoted.
Yeah, that’s sucks. The firm mentioned in my comment isn’t Deloitte. We’re promoting our best, not laying them off.
