How much are you spending on your wedding, compared to income? I’m thinking of spending ~50% of my yearly income (after taxes). I have it saved, and it’s about 30% of my lifetime savings, but it will take a while to earn it back. For context I am not a homeowner so could use the funds more efficiently. Sorry for another question about tipping vendors, but can someone point to any norms for NYC/NJ-based weddings? We’ve received and seen a lot of “interesting” input from others like 20% vs. a flat amount of $100-$500 vs. for photography to tip 1-2% per image that we would hang up. And then what if a vendor has multiple helpers? For reference, 20% on some of our contracts is $1,200. *Specifically for vendors where tip is not included in their contacts.

Comment where you are cutting back to save money. Here are ours:
- Not doing a presidential suite, instead we’re getting a normal suite and using a conference room for hair/makeup/meals
- Centerpieces. We are doing a few bigger centerpieces, then small bud vases at the rest of the tables.
- Transportation for guests. Our wedding is in a major city and ubers are easily accessible.
- Flowers. No flowers for men, only the groom is getting a boutonnière. No flowers for parents/grandparents.

Can we talk about wedding planners and upsells? Things with our planner started out great, but now every other conversation she's trying to upsell this, that, and the other thing...with no real regard to our budget. We obviously keep declining, but it's starting to wear on us. Is this normal or are we looking at a serious red flag?
