All of NYC got it back in March/April. Nothing to worry about now
Congrats you can be president now

Don’t be fooled, we still have many sick. About ~700 positive tests daily, that’s 21k a month...while as a whole we are under 1% of the entire city population, we still have risk of catching the virus. The risk is lower outdoors hence some may not wear masks, but everyone has to be compliant inside any stores etc.

We must stay vigilant. Outside not to bad if your at least 6 ft. Inside definitely mask

I hope that wearing masks outside is a little different than not wearing them inside.

The virus reproduction rate tanked in NYC because of the total shutdown during the peak. Now any spread is contained to lower percent day over day growth. Check out rt.live - New York’s graph is close to the ideal. Once you a slow a virus down enough, even as it rebounds you’re talking exponentials from a lower starting point.
Because the virus doesnt spread on open air as easily.. wearing masks while walking outside has close to 0 effect. Wearing a mask in a closed space saves live. I'm truly impressed how smart people in this app can't understand the difference
@ EY3 outdoor dining seating is spaced out and in no way are millions of people a day (probably more like thousands, if that) out dining or pedestrians walking by. And it goes back to the effectiveness of contact tracing, I don’t know of any tracing tech/program that’s widely implemented so chances are their tracing/numbers are flawed. Same goes for reported covid cases, we assumed the first case in NYC was in late March but in fact it started spreading in Feb and possibly before that. We’re testing more now yes, but probably only testing a small percentage of people exposed/out. Some people clear the virus with no issues, others die. The point of wearing masks in public is to not pass the virus onto someone who could die.
@McKinsey, this CDC guidance? https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2020/p0714-americans-to-wear-masks.html
I’m hoping masks and social distancing + not ever riding the subway makes a big difference
It depends on where you are because most places I’ve seen people wear mask. And if they aren’t they are spread out. When corona first hit I used to never wear a mask outside until I got on the bus or went into the store. I’m in Queens so it’s easy for me to walk down the block and never occupy the sidewalk with someone else. But now I wear a mask the minute I step outside.

A combination of a shutdown of large groupings of people (eg subways, concerts), strict mask compliance inside and a decent amount of immunity (while not herd immunity the amount of people who already had it will lower the spread).
